Total newb in need of help

K im a long time naval and combat sim fan and just stumbled across the series and got em. I got the games on steam. I guess the way to go with SH4 is run silent run deep and then one of the super mods (correct me if im wrong).

But also whats the JSGME that everyone talkes about.

I was thinking about going with Real fleet boats. and it says install that with jsgme then install rsrd.

Im kinda confused on how to actually get the mods on the game. can some one help?? Also have i selected good? I guess you can only run one super mod.

im no computer wiz but I love combat sims. So i want it to play well which i guess requires the mods, but im not the greatest getting it all to work together.

thanks alot.

JSGME is a "MOD Enabler". It allows you to put the MODs in a folder than activate them. It keeps track of the files it changes and when you disable the MOD, it puts the files back the way they were. So you do not have to permanently change your SH4 files to add MODS.
Look above at the "Stickys" and you will find JSGME, read the instructions for installing it!!! And "generate a snapshot of game files".

There is also a sticky for Vista and Win 7, I have xp so I have not read it, but it may have some useful info if you have vista or win 7.

Welcome Aboard and enjoy.

STEAM woes

So i bought these on steam and each game worked fine on my lap top. I did get un modded SH4 to run with u boat missions. on vista on my lap top.
now on my desktop I didnt try to run it first (prob should have) but I am currently un installing it and re installing it (pain in the but about steam is it means redownload.) So I'll see tommorow if it will run fine by itself. Then I'll try mods.

But I used the JSGME, and installed in the order given by the readmes and everything. But the moment I hit run it poped up the "This program is not responding microsoft is trying to find the solution"

error window.

Anyone else have anything like this?

When JSGME is enabling large mods it will sometimes say Not responding, just leave it alone for a few minutes and It will work fine. But the truth is it is working.

WHen I go into steam and start the game it does the "steam preparing to launch game" window or whatever then that closes and it immediatly says "Silent hunter 4 is not responding" window pops up.

Even after I disabled all the mods, like I said i didnt try to run the game stock so i dont know if this was problem caused by mods or steam game, but the game did work fine stock on my laptop which also has vista and is through steam but less powerful.

We'll im at work now so I will finish re installing it try it stock and if it works try to put the mods on.

But you are saying let it run the not responding window for a bit and it should work?

Thanks
