I will wait for SH5 to finish baking by the modders
I went out and bought this game on release day, like most all of you did. While the game looks fantastic it is still rather "raw". We all know it's major failing points so I won't list them out here. I am going to put this one back on my game shelf and wait for the fantastic modders of the community to work their magic and make this game what we all know it SHOULD be. Until then, I will play SH4 (modded to perfection) and remain ever optimistic. I will eventually see you on patrol.
CHEERS to all!:salute: |
Well thats the what UBI is doing as i see. Releasing the unfinished game and let the modders to fix it. And demand us to buy original game. For what?
|
Yea.. I see the promise, but it's junky arcade nonsense in its current state.. I have already gone back to SHIV and will come back when the very talented modders have had their way with it and it can be savored properly :)
On that note: thanks to you the modding community you have taken what were medeocre games at release and made them something truely amazing! |
Exactly as 141st_Alper says! Why should they collect the money and hard working modders do all the work? Better to not buy the game at all until it comes out in the bargain bin. If you need a sub sim fix then SH3 with mods is still the ultimate. Now of course I don't expect a company game to be 100% as we'd like, as time and money restrictions will mean shortcuts and simplifications even at the best of times. It's not like Ubisoft will hire a team to take years to trawl through databases and history and tweak the settings in the game to make it as good as possible and as realistic as possible. They'd never release a game that way!
What we should though expect is at least a finished product with at most minor bugs that will be an enjoyable and believable experience out of the box! This is what Ubisoft has NOT been doing at all throughout the SH series. |

But there's a bunch of us here who urge us to buy it regardless of quality, otherwise they fear there will never be another ww2 submarine 'simulator'.

Sticking with SH 4 myself.Only big thing SH 4 needs is more interior which some started but were unable to finish.

That's a good point about Ubisoft being paid for the modders cleanup work. That's not cool...
I tried the game for two days then gave up and uninstalled it. I'll give it a shot again in six months after the mods do their good stuff and Ubisoft releases how many ever patches they'll need to make it work right. I don't understand how Ubisoft could release such an incomplete and poorly designed product. They used to be the standard of quality. Now, after the weak SHIV release and now this mess with SH5, I will never buy a Ubisoft product again until I have the opportunity to read game website and user reviews. |

without ever considering a review of it, call it "love-blind stupidity". Same thing here with SH5, I bought it the day it was released because I knew that Ubisoft was really on the right track (well at least with their last couple of series SH3, Sh4, and the U-boat add-on) Thanks to this very talented community, they are going to save Ubisofts debacle. I know that with time Silent Hunter 5 will come out perfect! How much time and effort, that is the real question. |
What makes everyone think that the modders will actually be able to fix this god?
Will they be able to add two years of war? Will they be able to add a Type II or a Type IX U-Boat for example? That's just for starters. Personally, I think SH5 is hopeless. |

The modders are releasing, day by day, give them time! |

Is this the way the game should have been released? Maybe not, but it is what it is and at the moment for me it's a naked, wet, screaming 2 week old kid. |

However, my lack of "faith" lies with the SH5 itself, not the modders. |
Except the modding scene is not what it used to be 2-3 years ago.
And if I were to start modding SH, I'd probably stick to SH3 or SH4 which already offers a more solid base and a lot of shared knowledge. The difference in graphics is negligible between SH4 and SH5 except the hardware requirements are much higher. |
The problem is that modders need to (re)start the game more often than a player. With all the connection issues, (and slower startup of the game even if authentication succeeds) what do you think will happen? And some of the mod-tools are built in the game, so you have to start it up and authenticate too... The mod tools are also limited, and not very intuitive (can't believe they used it to build the game actually).
I've tried some stuff the past 2 days, and I am royally PO-ed by this as are other modders. It's an unworkable situation for me, at least for now so I decided I won't make mods for SH5 (and no, I won't make S3D for SH5 either). I suspect many old-skoolers will hang back with SH3/4. |
