Well I didn't know...

Well I didn't bloody know that an exploding ship could damage your hull integrity and cause flooding... nearly ended my patrol before it started...

How close were you when it exploded? I'm curious because I've always wondered how close was too close.

Paul Riley 03-07-10 09:39 AM

Probably if you were right next to/behind it,like 50m or even less.Wouldnt at all be surprising,if you have ever seen what can be done with a petrol bomb imagine what a ship full of the stuff can do...well,diesel in this case :o
Minimum safe distance for me would probably be no less than 300m and still get a great fireworks display.

LOL

I lost some crew members on deck a while back while I was gunning them with the deck gun and the ship exploded and killed my deck crew.

Last night I was gunning a ship and it rammed, me, and pinned me against it's hull. It was burning, and then exploded and sank my ship.

I've got a picture of me pinned against the bow of the ship just before it exploded, but I can't get it to upload right now.

hahaha, classic stuff. Can't imagine Doenitz been pleased though.

I have gotten few chances in a convoy attack to hit an Ammo ship, missed them all.:haha:
However has anyone hit one, I wonder if it damaged or sunk any ships around it.:hmmm:
There is at least one U-boat that was believed lost by being too close to its victim when it blew.

ha it was a rinky dink coastal freighter, and I was within 50 Meters of it. All stopped, and it was disabled with a few below decks shots. I let the crew get some experience, so they start shooting the deck, cargo, command tower, and eventually the whole thing pretty much mushroom clouds at once, and that nearly killed me later in the patrol. The game CTD'ed anyways, so it didn't really matter :wah:.

Blast radius = 100 metres

Paul Riley 03-07-10 04:15 PM

Almost as powerful as what I produced after last night's dinner :rotfl2:

:hmmm:

I'm not sure now if that's the closest I should get to an exploding ship, or just the minimum safe distance from Jimbuna's loo.

Oh yeah, they can get you. My shortest career was the one I never got to. I was playing the Gunnery Training mission in the Academy. I was shelling a ship from very close range when it exploded, taking me with it.:dead:
