An interesting read, thanks for posting.

The best article on the topic ever written. It really sets things in perspective.

Old news. ;)

Overall impression is that writer tends to be biased, to say the least (in favor of the game publishers).

Since I'm not a publisher, but a victim of the draconian anti piracy methods of that publisher I cannot agree with him.

So I'm boycotting all games that prevent me from playing off line.
No SH5 for me then. :damn:

Oook, you did not buy the game and you're a 'victim' :06::nope:

The Enigma 03-06-10 11:32 AM

I'm a victim of it because of the built in OSP/DRM.
It prevents me from buying it because I refuse to pay for an off line game that forces me to be on line while playing it
And also for many other reasons which I've posted in several other threads.

If I buy a car and there are many hidden defects, I am a victim.

But If I don't buy that car, how can I be a victim? :06:

The Enigma 03-06-10 03:52 PM

I've always payed for my games.
What is the reward? An even more restrictive DRM.
I'm a victim of my own honesty.

Immacolata 03-06-10 06:13 PM

Victim? Oh, please. Get over yourself. You have a choice as consumer, you are excercising your power. The victims here are foremost those supposed to earn money on selling their product.
Then the next victims are those buying the products and SUFFERING with the DRM.

Im not talking about soft skinned people in a nerd rage over the potential issues and moral what nots. But those actually experiencing problems with a copy of the game in their hand. I find it galling that I have to register to play a game, and that I am forced to synch saves and stuff online. But I'm not a victim, because I didn't buy or play SH5. See what I did there?
Owners of the game have a legitimate right to whinge. The rest of us? Just. Be quiet now, please. People got the message by now. Stop the nerd ragery, please.

Hey, if you're okay with a producer dictating when and how you use their product, you go right ahead.

Me, I'll stand up for my belief in purchasing a product and using it when and how I dictate, not the producer.

If that's what you want to call a nerd rage, go right ahead. The way I see it, you're wrong.

Really ?

How can you take the article seriously when the author states that back in day he used to copy Amiga games "just because he could", and then goes on to rave about internet piracy.
Nothing has changed other than the medium.
People don't copy games anymore, they share it on the web.

And to put things in perspective, the Amiga gaming scene was destroyed, completely obliterated by pirates, the people that copied games just because they could.
So the author of the article has no kind of legitimization to pontificate about modern piracy and making it seem like they (old and modern) piracy are 2 different things motivated by different reasons. Hint : They're not.

Epic Fail.

dkunath 03-06-10 09:09 PM

Have you head of paid for it?

I read the entire post. While it started out as a resonable disccusion of the the issue re DRM if you read on it becomes very clear that this person is clearly a paid spokeperson for DRM.

He does nothing but support DRM and down plays any complaint from usres.
