Has anyone been attacked by aircraft yet ?

I am in year 1939 and have 138,000 tons of enemy shipping to my credit . And have been depth charged by destroyers.
But to date have not been strafed or bombed I see aircraft but they do not attack is this normal?

Before this my game of choice was SH3 with Grey Wolves and aircraft are deadly. Were stock SH3 aircraft this passive ? Its been so long since i have played a un modded version i have forgotten.

And have any of you been attacked from the air in SH5?

Nope, no bogeys. Thank god for cloud-cover, I guess. :hmm2:

ReFaN 03-05-10 08:17 AM

a Hurricane came and peppered me a bit, didnt take any damage tho.

most of the time they just fly past me.

kylania 03-05-10 09:41 AM

In four patrols I've seen probably a dozen pairs of planes fly right past me or even directly over me as I putter away from a sinking merchant. Not a single airplane attack.

SteamWake 03-05-10 10:30 AM

I have not as yet been attacked by an aircraft, then again I havent made it past my first patrol.

I did see last night aircraft which appeared to be approaching me so I told the WO to man the AA gun. He dutifully shouted out "Man the flak gun" and nodded. Of course absolutly nothing happened. The planes flew right over me and kept on going

I have been strafed, rather ineffectually, a few times.
Only by planes that happened to be heading straight towards me. Otherwise they don't seem to notice I am even there.

GoldenRivet 03-05-10 10:44 AM

my crew and I are growing right fond of the RAF air shows and their sporty low passes.

I have been overflown by at least 50 airplanes over the course of two missions... i swear one of them was navigating by means of repeatedly tapping a long black cane along the surface of the ocean.

Darkreaver1980 03-05-10 10:55 AM

people, these airplanes are unarmed hurricane fighters. Later on you will see armed planes which attack your sub.

The unarmed ones will report your position

Hartmann 03-05-10 12:57 PM

The main losses by airplanes were in late years 1943-1945 but dev team ripped off this part of the campaign.

Also a real air cover can ruin the experience for new players, but it´s not a problem with broken scripts and bugs :88)

I've been overflown by pairs of what look like fighters, but never attacked. Someone mentioned them radioing in your position, but I've yet to see DDs vector in on my position.

malkuth74 03-05-10 03:23 PM

I have never been attacked. But I have seen many planes. Usually I can hear them but cannot find them.. I can see them on the map display sometimes there is a pair of them, sometimes only one. I usually go to periscope depth anyway.

Last night though a plane flew over me, way outside range of bristish airfields I was like WTF? This time I found it though. I zoomed in on it and it was a Bi Plane! It looked like one of those biplanes that are launched from a Cruiser or battleship... But I think it must of been from a carrier in the area.

Kinda neat... By the way I tried to find my boat from his view and could not find me. I did order dive to periscope depth though, so I probly was under water too much at that point.

sergbuto 03-05-10 03:37 PM

I do not have the game but my guess is that the reasons for non-attacking aircrafts are the same as in SH3 and SH4 and were as well carried by devs to SH5. Those are fairly easy to correct as I have introduced/done for SH3 with dummy bombs and angle of fire for guns on aircrafts.

Schunken 03-05-10 03:40 PM

I also never was able to spot one....but always there was low 3d-clouds and bad weather....

...maybe they stay over the clouds because not want ride the turbulences... :hmmm:

Capt.Warner 03-05-10 07:26 PM

I have seen 2 planes so far.Neither even tried to attack me.:hmmm:They flew right past me as well.If he did not see me,I have no clue what he was doing:haha:
