Oh, dear! Got my SH5 in the mail today. Loaded her up...........All seemed OK......opening screens etc hunky dory. Start a career and it immediately goes to pieces. Framerate of a maximum 2fps!!! I kid you not!!!! Looks like I need to delve into this. Surely this Nvidia 9200 has the necessary oomph to run SH5? If not I will be seriously hacked of. Any ideas?

I think a 9200 is a pretty low end card actually, could be wrong though.

I think despite what numbers would lead you to believe, it performs worse than a 8800GT.

Looks strange, but try disabling the shadows and AA completly.

60fps in the initial mission sinking the 4 ships , I think it was the same up top and inside. I will check again ..

ps .. the explsions are a joke , way over the top , the after fires look good enough but the initial explosions looks comic book.

First see this benchmark, your card is slower than SH5 minimum requirements, meaning that you should turn off almost all of the graphics options (especially shadows) :

Then try installing the latest drivers from NVidia, should help.

Are running on-board graphics if i am correct the 9200 is a intergrated gpu ?
If you are a cheap Video card would be a easy fix if your computer has a expansion slot.

IRRC with the 5xxx-9xxx series of nvidia GFX cards the 1st 2 numbers are the most important. the 1st number tells you how old it is 5 being the oldest and 9 the newest.
The second number is an indicator as to how good it actually is. with 1 or 2 being the lowest/worst and 9 being the highest. 2-4 are not really made for gaming mainly just casual use and most old games.

My 8400 beats your 9200!

j/k

When I started the campaign, a crewman woke me up to see the captain. He did this at 3-4 fps.

They've created a beautiful game and provided graphics options that tweak everything EXCEPT your boat's interior and crew. I can count the wrinkles on my captain's forehead but can't walk 2 feet in this god-awful slide show.

I bet the game would run like a dream if I hunted merchants in a one-man row boat. At max settings, mind you.

This is the problem with the branding of graphics cards. You would expect the 9xxx to be good, but a 9200 is actually really bad, probably comparable to the 6800 GT.

Eldritch 03-06-10 07:05 AM

The rebranding is fairly annoying. I game on a Mac Pro, and they call the gfx-card that came with it a GT-120, which in reality is a 9500 GT.

A completely useless renaming in other words but hey, it handles SH5.
