[REL] Blue underwater impurity v1.0
The purpose of this mod is to change the color of those underwater impurities from that horrible greenish swamp algae to a bluish one better looking (IMHO)

mmmm interesting! Looks very nice
I will throw one thing out there though, and it's not a criticism, it's more of a question... and maybe someone can provide an authoritative answer. I would think that your revised coloring is more appropriate to the Pacific - you always hear about the "Deep Blue Pacific", and that maybe the greenish/algae/murky tinge is more representative of the actual Atlantic? So IS the green perhaps more authentic? I do like the blue color though! |
Green is more authentic if you are in the north sea or baltic sea. And its also depenant on what time of year it is.
From my point of view all mods we get are good and its a matter of taste here. I like the blue colour you have done and its easier to watch underwater. But i will keep my green peasoup as iam used to it. It looks like the baltic sea :D |
Hmmm now I'm torn.
Autheticity to the North Sea + Baltic :damn: or Authenticity to warmer climates + beauty :damn: |
I did that because when you see diving movies in open seas in the atlantic or elsewhere northern i guess, you don't usually see that many algae floating which is what seems to constitute those impurities (it is how they are labelled in-game ie "impurity.dds").
I favored best some kind of light impurities and gives it a rather "bubble" like appearance which is no more realstic, but fits more in the mood for me (like those photoshop edited marketing screenies from SH4 for example). Looks more atmospheric, especially with the depth of field now in my opinion but it's a matter of taste I guess. In the baltic sea, there's not much algae floating i guess, it's the entire sea that as a greenish-brown tint maybe, i would rather guess, no? |
I like it. Aesthetically, I think it's a bit nicer. Although I ought to try one of the floater-reducing mods for SHIV here as well - the green is authentic, I guess, but I don't like the density of it.
|
Ive been diving in the baltic sea and during the summer times we have a visibility of 50 cm due the greensoup.
But if i dive under the thermal layer its clear but the sun cant reach that far down so its more grey/steelblue colours. But that greenish colour appears mostly at the coastline. You never se that out in the open sea. (ive been a fisherman also) In the open sea its more steelblue to greenish colour here in the north. But if u look at the medteerain water its more azure blue in its colour. Just like you modded it. :) When my career takes me to midteerain and i have that greensoup i will defenlty use your mod to better reflect that part of the world. |
The "greensoup" reminds me of my home waters (Long Island Sound/NY Coastal Waters)...been fishing here for years, and I'd even have to say that the waters here are even murkier than the color/"floaters" used in the game. Alot of the water color/density has to do with the particular species of algae inhabiting those waters, and the "bloom" (multiplication) of said flora during different times of the year...
the "bluesoup" looks good though...would definitely use that for warmer waters like the Med...Good job. FINALLY, my degree in Biology pays off! :rotfl2: Regards, Enth |
Looks good. Thanks.
|
It is great! keep improving the game!
|
That does look better, thanks!
|
Yeh i like it too, a matter of taste for sure, but i agree with the depth of view looks good, thanks.
|
thanks this looks great!
|
