Already installed english? Want german voices?

No need to re-install and choose german voices in the installation process. Was looking through my file structure and found this:

SilentHunter 5\data\LngGameData\Voices\German\data\movies
SilentHunter 5\data\LngGameData\Voices\German\data\sound

Just copy them over to the right location.

just thought i'd point it out. I saw a few posts where people thought you had to copy it from the CD or re-install it.

They're right there in your game folder.

Instead of overwrwiting them... you might want to make an "English" folder in there and copy your currrent ones over first.

Yeah, this is in the Tips section. Thanks for writing down the exact file path, I will add that.

Sorry, haven't looked in that thread yet.

One other note... you can swap them out even with the game running. When i noticed it and copied over the german sounds to see what they sound like, I had forgot the game was minimized.

When i finally ALT-TAB'd back in, the new sounds were working. Apparently the sounds are streamed from file on-demand and not loaded in memory.

Where is the "right location" that those files have to be placed?

Jeevz 03-04-10 10:11 AM

data/Sound/Speech

If you create that folder structure in a folder named somethig like German Voice Mod you can install it with JSGME and all backups are taken care of.

When the patch installed, I thought I saw speech files being installed. It passed by pretty quick so I can't say with certainty. But if that's indeed the case, the installer should install the same language as your initial install, potentially giving you a mix of German and English voices, if you manually changed them. Even if you disabled your voice mod first, you could miss or undo any changes/fixes the patch made in the voice files.

Which is not to say don't do it, just bear in mind there are potential downsides.

letterboy1 03-04-10 12:00 PM

Okay, so let the automatic update run first just in case the speech files are patched, and then enable the mod through JSGME. Might be a little tedious because you have to exit the game to do it, but worth it to me to avoid mixed files. Thanks guys! I just can't stand the German-accented English when the genuine German is available.:)

Good tip.

mobucks 03-05-10 06:18 AM

the folders are empty in the Impulse release. poor poor mobucks.

hachiman 03-05-10 03:18 PM

Sorry for being thick here guys.

When you install the game, you get a choice of German or English voices. To switch, you need to reinstall or you can add them manually from the game disc.
SilentHunter 5\data\LngGameData\Voices\German\data\movies
SilentHunter 5\data\LngGameData\Voices\German\data\sound

I can't see this date folder on the cd. I have what looks like rar files saying data1 and data2?

Where are they?

gutted 03-05-10 03:37 PM

Not on your CD, it's in the game folder on your hard drive.

hachiman 03-05-10 03:42 PM

I have 2 SH5 folders on my hard drive. One in the program files 86 folder that says ubisoft launcher and the other in my documents.

None of them in the data folder have LngGameData in them?

If i do a search for LngGameData it's not found. I am using Windows 7.

Thanx
