Ubisoft DRM Titles Confirmed

Ubisoft confirms their controversial new DRM scheme that requires a constant online connection will be used in Splinter Cell: Conviction, Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic, Assassin's Creed 2, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, and the new Ghost Recon game, reports Softpedia by way of PC Gamer magazine. They offer a quote from a Ubisoft spokesperson: "It's hard for us to say, yes, from now until the day that we all die all of our games are going to include this but most will." Thanks Shacknews.

To whom is he referring with "we"?
UBISoft?

Surely, they have killed themselves with these implementations.
I'm not feeling sorry for them when they die. :-?

I read it as "We, the DRM-Board-Managers"

I am currently upset with mmo games. So I must admit that this DRM does not rank that high on an annoyance scale, as with the mmo games that I have ended up hating.

Mmo games of this day are overly simplified imo and it ends up with me not wanting to even try Star Trek Online as an example. Eve online was nice, but still not good enough. I have tried Wow, AoC, LoTR and played Eve-Online for over three years.

Wouldn't take that quote too seriously. Even though i feel nothing but the profoundest contempt for their business ethics and product policies, they won't maneuver themselves into into a one-way street with a ticking timebomb in their trunk. Any company will adept to the reality of market demand and balance sheets. Which route we're going is less of a corp- than a consumer decision. There's always a choice for the consumer, you just need to be consequent.

But its a bit sad that a game that started as true simulator of uboats
seems to end up graphic-heavy and simplified, to suit mainstream taste.
Even more sad is the fact that a lot of us seems content with this, thinking
that the franchise of SH will be gone if they dont "support" it.

I guess its a bit like marriage, some stay for the sake of what has been
and some move on or force a change.

Well the way things develop, it's not really the fault of developers, more at the hands of consumers.

20 years ago people were happy with 2d graphics without fluid animations as long as they had tons of statistics and numbers. The gamers today aka kiddies who are the majority will destroy a game with bad graphics, and if it's too complicated they will destroy it as well. Destroy here meaning spam crap about it in internet channels. Media is just a bit more powerful now and a voice who has others agreeing to it can cause havoc.

Oh how I miss those games with a lot of numbers and 200-300 page manuals you had to read to at least 50% to even be able to play the game...

Noren 02-27-10 07:44 AM

but when I was a kid, I must have had great imagination becaus I was fully content with awful (by todays standard) graphics and actually enjoyed a manual the size of the bible. I bet computers and games was the primary reason of my top grades in english...that and the movies :D

but its diverse...back then I could not get a second opinion at digital speed.
Its sad if flashy graphics is seen as a substitute for content.

Sorry for of topic, Im just sad that the developers are ignorant to what the community wants. I guess Im fed up with how they
paint a false image of the game....for the quick sales.

Nordmann 02-27-10 07:49 AM

Heh, I take it their comment means they have no intention (at this time) of removing their OSP rubbish? Pity, guess they'll have quite a few lost sales!

I'm not loyal to a software house, only to my interests.
And renting for 50/60$ a game is not what a consider a good investment of my money.
Of course if I could license Ubisoft those 60 $ and get them back when I stop playing hey that would be great wouldn't it ? :03:

They license the game, I license the money. :haha:
