German SH5 forum at Subsim?

Ok, many people have asked for a German forum here. Let's see if there is enough interest. Danke!

I know you're probably looking for votes from people who will actually post here... in German... but I wanted to just get something out there on the general idea of a separate forum.

I am totally in favor of it if it brings in folks who otherwise would not be able to participate in the English language forums. However, the down side is that we in the English language forums may lose out as folks who would otherwise participate may opt for the native language forum instead.

That's true and likely. In the past I had many non-English forums (in the Wolfpack League) and it did happen. The German forum there, for example, basically moved to another url. :-?

Ideally, having a place here for non-English speaking Germans to post where they will not have their posts erased when a new game comes out, plus being closely associated with the English forum here where Germans who speak both languages post, will be productive for us all. Clearly I think it is best when Germans who speak both languages post in both forums. Cannot have a really good U-boat discussion without them.

Ja

Yes - if UBI is doing, what it is doing now, we should give our German speaking colleaques a forum (mich eingeschlossen - myself included)

Ragtag 02-26-10 08:29 AM

I voted no. And the reason is that i really want us all to be in one place instead of splitting the good crew we have here ;)

And I'd say it's best to have as much forum members as possible, whatever is their language, after all the english speaking Subsim crew could always ask the bilingual german crew for help to decipher german language :O: once an important thing needs to be said and known by all.

I vote with yes, but I have a little fear it will "split" the community? We will get differend Information base?

Meanwhile most germans up to 50 years old maybe can understand english quite frankly, I supposed.

And (seen it by myself) you will greatly improfed your english skills over the time ;)

Willing and able to assist, (if ever needed) as i am bi-lingual, speak, read and write both fluently, with German being my native language.
:salute:

I did not vote. Since I do not speak German, I would not use it and would rather let native German speakers voice their opinion.

Even though I also think it is better to have all discussions on one forum in a common language, Germany has a large number of subsimmers. I had read a long time ago that it was the second biggest market for subsims after the U.S.A. We could get a lot of useful info right here from new posters who would not normally post here, either because they do not speak english or feel more comfortable expressing themselves in German.

Second that.
But on the other hand it is a good idea to integrate brandnew members (all the refugees from ubi.de :O:) and maybe have a base for german modders where they can communicate fast and in their native language.
Lot´s of work for the mods to keep up the information flow between english and german boards.
I´m still on the fence about this... but voted for Yes

Ragtag 02-26-10 08:45 AM

Well, even though i voted no doesn't mean that i don't want them here :)
It's just the fear of a split crew. But by all means, they are more than welcome

ParaB 02-26-10 08:45 AM

I'm not really in favour of a german forum on subsim. As others have already mentioned, it would only split the community (a bit). IMO one of the great things about the internet is the ability to communicate with all you fine chaps from all over the world.

It's not that I'm "against" such a forum per se, but I personally don't need one and most probably wouldn't use it.
