How Many of You Know How To....
Use a sextant ? Living on an island and having a weather deck with a southern exposure.
I can see east and west without obstructions and background light. Which is also a plus when using stars and planets. I check my position just about every day weather permitting, for the fun of it. Also can't have my island floating away can I ? :haha: |
I used to use one years ago for some light navigation but mostly to shoot tack angles at marks :88)

I thought a sextant was a group of six singers?

Ya I know how to use one. Not very tricky though. Calculating your longitude is more fun (particularly with out an accurate watch), though the most fun is dead reckoning + sextant latitude with out a watch (the pre 1700's way).
