Will SH5 saves be stable because they are online ?

Will SH5 saves be stable because they are online ? I had a terrible time with SH3 saves and the game throwing me to desktop . The SH4 huge save bug stopped me playing that as well . Will the SH5 saves have to be spot on with this auto sync saving online ?

From my understanding SH5 will save first on your harddrive, then upload that save to ubi and sync them.
So as long as the upload and sync of save dont use full bandwidth then OSP should still be able to talk to ubi.... if saves do use full bandwidth(which is unlikely) then game may pause til upload/ download is complete and OSP can talk to ubi again.

And as for corupt saves..... how many files have you downloaded and found them to be corupt.... it can happen but its fairly low from my experance.

mmmm what happens if and when the DRM is patched out? saves will be local i take it?

jwilliams 02-24-10 07:10 PM

They are already saved localy....you can even turn cloud saves off.

If they patch to remove OSP from game. Then this patch would just tell the game not to look for Ubi's permition to continue.

e.g.
1. game asks Ubi every 5mins if it can continue
2. if no reply from ubi then pause
3. wait until OSP hears from ubi (if yes goto step 1.) (if no goto step 4.)
4. if pause < 20mins (goto step 3.)
5. if game is paused > 20mins exit to desktop

I'm 100% certain that SH5 save games will be just as stable as they were in previous versions.

Oh, wait. :hmm2:

:haha:... in all fairness, I do recall the devs saying that the save system has been given an over haul, time will tell i guess.

SH3 loading time was already long enough... Now imagine loading your games from some foreign server online.

Vikinger 02-24-10 08:11 PM

I think most of the saves will be stored localy on our computers and just a verification code will be transmitted.

Nearly the same is it works if you use steam and games you bought through them.

Nope. Ubisoft stated that their wonderful OSP will allow players to install the game on 100 computers and load their progress from any one of them, and that will be impossible to do if only the verification code is sent to their server, right? So it's going be saving/loading for 5~10 minutes for the players I'm afraid. :nope:

Ohh didnt know that. Well i just hope then that they will have some stable servers that can handle the loading, or it all will fall down.

I would hate to se that when i get home after a long day at work, just to find out that the servers are down and i cant play the game when i want to and have the time to do so.

Sorry but your wrong.... You can chose to not to upload your saves. But of cause this would limit playing (loading saves) from any of the other 99 computers that you've install the game too :-

Some people are inferring that your savegames are only stored online - that's not the case. You can set the Ubisoft Game Launcher not to upload your saves, and even if you permit it, it seems the saves are made locally first and then uploaded when you exit the game. Whichever setting you choose, you still need to be online to launch or play the game.

Yes this is still a big possiblity, The way OSP works is...
If for ANY REASON you cant talk to server, the game wont work. :nope:

SH3 and 4 did not have save problems because the saves where corrupt.
It was the programming that made and loaded the saves that was at fault,
not the saves them selves.
Files spontaneously becoming faulty is a very rare phenomenon. You are
far more likely to just have a HDD failure. So, no, your saves will not be
more reliable. If the programming that made and loaded the saves is still
poor, you will still have problems, where ever your saves are stored.
