Vegemite

Christmas '09, my stepdad gives me a little jar of Vegemite as a gift. Five minutes later he asks me to put the lid back on. :D

I'd mentioned this on a thread somewhere, I think it was one of Yubba's, and someone replied "Go ahead and shove a spoonful of that in your mouth. Yum!". Well, I've had that jar sitting in my cupboard since Christmas and always wondered.

So today after a few seconds (*cough* hours) of deliberation (and just wanting something to write about) I did just that. Australia, you are a hearty breed with balls of tungsten. One other thing... "zomfg how much salt do you put in that stuff?!? Gah!"

.....

:D

I did it. I bit the Vegemite bullet, baby!

Thats why a jar of that stuff lasts ages, your only supposed to use a very small amount (unless your a salt addict).

The proper procedure is to toast some nice thick sliced bread, lightly butter the toast then spread the vegemite over the toast and enjoy with a nice cuppa tea or coffee or a glass of orange juice for breakfast.:yeah:

Putting a spoonful in you mouth is like putting a spoonful of salt in.

You can use it in cooking as well as a stock base.

From the sound of this, I'd store it in another container that also has a lid. :03:

Vegemites not too bad, Marmites quite nice too :yeah: Not that much difference between the two though.
Shove a spoon of Tabasco sauce in your mouth though, that'll bring tears to your eyes :03:

I always wanted to taste Vegemite, because I am interested in "foreign food", but it's not available in germany. Ordering one Jar over the net is too expensive, so it seems I have to wait until I will go to Australia for the holidays. :wah: :DL

Brother-in-law had an experience like that once.

Was chopping up jalapenos for something he was cooking. Got everything prepped and in the pot and took a potty break while it simmered away.

Naturally, being a very conscientious person, he DID wash his hands after he finished up in the bathroom.

He just didn't wash them before he started.

Been there, done that.
I once got a tiny bit of this pepper juice into my eye, which also hurts like hell.
