Mystery....

Cruising northwards through kvadrant AM01 (east of the Rockalls) a mystery occured. When incidentally looking through the binoculars in aft direction some very vague silhouttes could be seen. First I thought it was enemy vessels sneaking up on us but then I saw several others, like very edgy rocks sticking up of the ocean. Scanning, some larger contoures could also be seen on starboard side aft. I got very curious as we had just cruised through the ame area (bad lookouts..?) so I decided to backtrack to investigate.

After an hours cruise at 15 knots they still didn't seem to have come any nearer. At our speed it couldn't have been icebergs. Any of you seen anything like it...? The picture below has been lightened and increased in contour....the contours seemed to be enveloped in constant fog.

That's enough to make a sober man drunk and paranoid....Hope you find the real answer.

I see that all the time. I think it has some thing to do with the way the sky and distances are rendered. In so far as I know they aren't "real" like your boat or the targets are.

Its a new British secret weapon to lure uboats closer to the british coast, like a carrot on a stick you follow these promising sightings right up until the moment you run aground right on the royal navys`s doorstep.

Seriously though it looks like compression artifacts within the sky tga file.

Well, if I'd continued on that course I'd rather ended up in Lorient....:hmmm:.....

I've seen them occasionally too. I've always figured it was a graphics issue with my card.
:)

I think it is a rendering artifact aswel. Call it a 'fata morgana' if you will.

Yes, I did - no signal. But, the silhouettes shown on the picture weren't the only ones. In-between much larger, but equally faint, silhouettes could be seen on port side. As if land - sloping hills - sometimes emerging from the fog.

Anyway, there was nothing there. Back in Lorient now.....:06:
