U-boat photo
Tell me what fdo you think about this photo.
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/5324/scan0001ly.jpg I have a felling that he autor of the book made some error's in the inscriptions... :hmmm: |
Those are some of the best photos I've ever seen,
Exception: The XB minelayer that looked like a carrier. |
?
now, identifying things on photoes is not my forté, but aint that an type VII? size? |
Trouble is, the two photos apper to be not the same boat. By the bow and the second photo has a flag that I can not see in the first. And the look of the boats are more WW1 than a type IXB!
|
I'm positive it isn't a Type IX.
|
The second photo has saddle tanks.. not IXB.
|
That damn thing aint ni IX. it aint even a VII. maybe a VII/a prototype, but no B or C too rounded nose.
That thing smells like russien or italian or something. but no IX or VII. Eh i am dum, butt i ain krezy. not yet.:shifty: |
The bow looks funny...too rounded. I'm too lazy to look right now, but did the IX's have the net cutter on the bow?
:) |

the top right one? The bow could be.... but not sure. Edit/ http://www.paulharbun.com/images/subvladi.jpg http://www.paulharbun.com/images/subvladi.jpg Soviet World War II S-56 Diesel Submarine Memorial Complex Museum - "The War Glory of the Red Banner Pacific Fleet" |
Courtesy of this thread elsewhere on the forums, I was just watching the linked video (lots of good sub footage but some serious neo-nazi overtones).
At approximately 0:48 (and possible again at 3:25) is a sub with the same nose as the one in the lower half of Rhodes' photo. Obviously I will bow to greater knowledge here, but I think the top one is a type IX and the bottom is a type VII. |
When I first saw the pictures in the book, I notice something strange, like not being the same boat. The legend claims 2 photos of a type IXB and I looked to the bow of both boats, and couldn't see a type IX bow. Even the background is diffrent (for a sequence photos...:hmmm:).
For me, both photos are from ww1 u-boats (possibly). The flag of the second could help identifying. |
