Meter from German U-boat WW2

I purchased this meter "Messinstrument aus U-Boot der Deutschen Kriegsmarine" last year that was supposed to come from a German U-boat (no idea of type) during WW2, I wondered if anyone might have an idea of what the gauge was for or possibly some of the symbols::hmmm:

kA stands for Kilo Amps so that means its a measure of the current running through a circuit so I'd guess it is from one of the electrical systems. Which one I'm stuffed if I know.

I'm an electrical mechanic & thought that myself, that would explain the negative as well as the positive movement, since it measures up to 3.5 thousand amps then it is quite logical that it was for the battery motors forward and reverse OR it could be the generator charge or both since the generator was also doubled as the motor.:hmmm:
