There was a battle of wits between a church on one side of the road and a pub on the other for many years here in Sydney. The church would put up a quote of a funny saying. The pub would put up it's reply.
It continued for many years and it became a bit of a tradition. A ceasefire was called for a week or two the the daughter of the pub owner got married.... at the church!
Like all good things it came to an end. The pub owner retired, and the pub turned into a coffee shop and apartments. The church burnt down a couple of years back due to an eletrical fault.
