Another star of the old classical league dies
Not many are left anymore. Now Jean Simmons has died yesterday.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8476400.stm The young Jean Simmons, along with Audrey Hepburn, really has occupied my mind a bit when I was a boy. A starry-eyed stunning beauty, and with a style and grace you almost do not see today anymore. Because I like the movie itself very much, I consider "The Big Country" with her and Gregoy Peck to be one of her most impressive movies. Not forgotten of course his her (somewhat cheesy) part in Kubrick's "Spartacus", and her award-winning participation in "The Robe", too. Bon Voyage. |
That is sad. I liked her in her movies.

Ditto.
"The Big Country" is one of the few westerns I've ever sat through more than once voluntarily. Primarily because of Gregory Peck, but not least of all because some of the other actors in it are so good, Simmons included. She also starred with Burt Lancaster in "Elmer Gantry," another favorite. |
