Important security update this (tuesday) evening

Microsoft announced that this evening (Tuesday) the awaited patch for the security holes in IE 6-8 and OE and Feemail will be released. People are advised to install this security patch .

The security breach is said to be responsible for having enabled Chinese hackers to crack down on Google user accounts, and behind raised hands is described as one of the most serious security issues ever. It has made German and French government offices to publicly advise in mass media not to use IE as long as these security holes exist, the Germans later also issued a second warning against using Outlook and Freemail. Microsoft tried to play down the issue with varying success, pointing out that the hole has not been seen to be exploited on IE8 systems.

That security holes exist, with Microsoft software and othes as well, we all do know for sure. but often the knowledge to code a script and run it in order to exploit such wealnesses, is not ciruclated in public and limited to dedicated hackers. This time, however, it seems the accoding information had become known to a wider audience, increasing the chances of people abusing it.

The attack by the chinese on the Google servers has been described as deliberate, extremely competently done and conducted with most aggressive viciousness. Critical Chinese prominents and potential "enemies of the state" had been targetted. The following row made Google announcing to withdraw from the chinese market, which was a business failure for them anyway, with market shares being below 15%, compared to the chinese search engine with around 65%. China reacted by even stiffening it'S psoition on state censorship, and banninh Cameron'S "Avatar" from most Chinese cinemas in preparation of paving the way for their own movie production "Confucius", which they want to turn into the most successful movie ever shown in China ever.

The part to be remembered: run your Autoupdates sometime this night or tomorrow, if you use IE or OE or FM.

Hehe, that truly was a nobrainer, wasn'T it. :DL Security Updates, of course. I do it manually, since I hate to have a billion programs constantly working in the background and doing things without me even knowing about it.

Glad I never allowed any of those programs to run on my machine.

From the day I installed my OS on, they were all banned from installing.

Mine are set to notification only....then I decide what I allow to be installed.

@Oberon

LMAO :rotfl2:

I let them download, but I approve the installs. I used to go for convenience and let them auto-install, until they started to restart my computer...

Same here. Now it checks for updates and downloads when I boot up, but waits for me to tell it to install. Which I usually do right away anyway, but as soon as I see the update icon in the taskbar at least I can wait until I see if a restart will be required before I get too involved in anything. I hated being right in the middle of half a dozen tasks and then, oh, hello, we're rebooting your computer for you, you're welcome!

Removal of the auto-pilot stuff in Vista was a primary, and early, objective.
Manualy checking for updates is my preference.

This is one of the things I like about my Gameing Rig.

No internet connection

No anti Virus

No updates

I reboot when I want. Total control.
