What torpedo depth when using inpact detonator?
Just did a search, seems no one cares about it.
Does it matter how deep under waterline you hit a ship? |
i personally try to go under the ship with a magnetic, helps fix any weird angles, but i think it depends on what ship you're going after and if you want to be "authentic" or not.
on regards to the type of ship, destroyers should be shallow and deep for anyone else. as for authenticity, my sh3 is stock so the torpedoes navigate just as well at any depth, while in real life torpedoes running very shallow are very suspect to the movement of the waves. the... uh... depth of the ship? oh darn i've forgotten the term... draft? can be found in the ship recognition manual. |
Armour-belts are not moddeled in SHIII so the depth can be chosen between minimum depth and generally 1,5 meters or better 2 meters above the draft in the reg-manual.

Depends a lot on the weather. I generally set a 2 or 3 meter depth if the seas are calm-ish. More if the waves are choppy.

I tend to set my impacts about 2 meters or so above the draft depth, depending on sea state. Seems to work pretty well for me.
I run magnetics, when I use them, about 1 to 1.5 meters below the draft depth. Be careful using magnetics in stormy seas though. They tend to go off prematurely. :) |
2-3 metres (even less in stormy weather)....be careful not to set them too deep or they might bounce of the curved section of the keel.

In stormy weather the seas are choppy and thus the target goes up and down alot more. If you dont set the torpedo shallow enough then the target will slip away without a scratch because the torpedo went under the target. |
