[REL] English Version Battle for the Baltic
This will only work with Battle of the Baltic.
Enable instead of 'History target Submarine GW BALT' This supercedes my previous mod "English Menu for Battle for the Baltic". DO NOT USE THIS MOD. It is wrong!. This mod overwrites my previous English Menu Mod It translates both the Flotilla Names, and the Submarine names to make starting a career easier for any English speakers. More importantly, it also translates the historically correct mission orders written by the BFB team into English. I have tried my best to translate the original patrol orders whenever possible. Unfortunately, I do not speak Russian. I typed it into google, and then checked with the relevant mission file for that year, and whatever I got out I read and then guessed the rest. The end result is what you ended up with. But having said that, the objectives are still basically the same. You will get a patrol order - In this case I have told you the max patrol zone size (eg. 50km) You will get a sink order - I will tell you what you have to sink, eg. 5000 tons You will get a Photo order - I will tell you what port you have to photo, eg. Danzig You will get a mine order - I will tell you what port to lay your mines before, and then what patrol zone you must then travel to. You wil get a Rescue order - I will tell you who to rescue, and where. A word about Swedish Neutrality: All Swedish vessels are set to be hostile to you. This is a limitation of the game. If you want to roleplay it to be the proper Soviet Captain then you are not allowed to attack Swedish vessels before June 1942. After June 1942, it was decided that Swedish merchants were vital to supplying iron ore and steel to Germany. Then the order was given to attack Swedish merchants. It is a limitation of the game that they are always hostile to you. But if you want to play it as history played out, then you are not allowed to attack Swedish vessels prior to June 1942. After that, the order was given, and you are free to engage as you see fit. This mod also changes the menu to give proper information for choosing your Flotilla and submarine. Do not worry if you have been using my previous incorrect mod for this. This mod replaces the old mod. But it will not break your old game. If you started a career using my old mod, and then change to this, it WILL NOT screw up your new game. It just changes the sub and flotilla names you see on the screen. Just make sure you are in port when you change mods. English Language Baltic Campaign v2: What you have just read! http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1498 This is version 2. I had stupidly forgotten the English main menu fix and the required fonts. English text for guns and torpedoes. Know your ordnance! http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1520 Also: BFB Nomograph and Sub Plotter: Because you want a nomograph, right? http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1499 Subs of the Baltic Fleet: Info on all the subs available, all good stuff. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1500 Pretend Soviet Uniform: let's all pretend we're in a Tom Clancy Film. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1501 The BFTB team are working on authentic Soviet Uniforms. Until then, maybe use this, black uniforms like Hunt For Red October! Of interest to anyone who wants to play this The Readme from the original team. I put it through an internet translator, but it still kind of makes sense. If you want to play this mod, you really should read this! http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1480 The BFB Team is working on a proper historically accurate office. But until then, why not use this? http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1488 |
Once again, this community amazes me. The BFB mod has only been out for a week, and already we've got the menu translated, our orders translated, a new office, new uniforms, accurate minefield maps, oh, and a plotter/nomograph thrown in for good measure... Un-effin'-believable!
Thanks sergei. Hats off to you:salute: |
how come it doesn't work for me ??
got all gibberish and no english.. the previous mod was the same but for the fact that it was all cyrillic script ? what am I doing wrong ? keltos |

It's the Cyrillic font for SH4. The previous mod (BFB English Menu) was incorrect according to sergi and didn't work right. I loaded this new mod up yesterday and saw the same thing you describe. A bunch of "iaaiaaaiouaii" gibberish just like before. Went back and re-read all the treads and found that i had missed the font file mod that Poul provided. It works for me now. Hope that helps. |

dl now will see tonight or tomorrow thanks ! so you see it in english ?? from the start ? I mean the main menu ? is it normal in the torpedo loadout for subs to retain their us names ? keltos |
I stupidly forgot to include the fonts and main menu English language fix.
An object lesson in why you should not drink and mod! Without these your Main menu screen will look like a load of gibberish. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. Have now updated post 1 with an updated version 2 of the main campaign mod. I am very sorry for the inconvenience I must have caused. |
@ keltos01: Did you get it working?
For me, the start menu is in English as well as the patrol orders. The radio messages, compartment names, and equipment descriptions are still in Russian, though I hear their translations are in the works. Also, the torpedos do appear to be American. I can't read the Russian descriptions, but they include the numbers 10 and 14 (Mk10 and Mk14 I assume). Edit: Oh, you're talking about the sub names. No, my subs have Russian names. The first time I tried the BFB mod, I got a Porpise out of Pearl Harbor, but that's because I was picking the wrong year. The Baltic campaign is on the bottom of the "Year" list on the start menu. @ sergei: No worries mate. Fantastic work you've done. I was just gonna muddle through by guess, but this is MUCH better. Thanks again, you deserve a beer or three :D |
Does anyone mind if I made the Soviet Cold War subs compatible with this mod?

I'm not part of the team. I'm just someone who has thrown together a few hasty English translations for bits of it. Poul can be found in the main BFB thread. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=159888 |
I posted the same on the original thread, but haven`t got any answers.

You could try sending him a PM.
I don't think he actually visits here very often. Probably spends most of his time on the Russian BFB forum. |
Hi Sergei,
Any update on the how your getting on with the radio messages? I'm not in a tearing hurry for them, but I'm getting curious as to what they say!:03: Mike. |

I didn't realize how many of them there are (about 1200!!) I just don't have the time or motivation to do them at the moment. Sorry to disappoint anyone waiting for this, but I don't think it's going to be completed anytime soon. As a consolation, I finished the torpedo and gun descriptions, so at least you will have English info for your sub armaments. Will be uploading later on today. |
UPDATE:
Added mod to change the description text for your guns and torpedoes into English. Know your ordnance! Second link in post one. The online translator did not do a good job on these files so I got my information from this very informative site about Naval weaponry from 1880 to the present.. http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/index_weapons.htm Check it out. There's a lot of interesting stuff on there.:DL EDIT: Wha-hey: I'm drunk in Trinidad! |

If it happens, it happens, if not, well, it isn't a disaster.:03: Thanks for the weapon descriptions! Mike. |
