Edit: Although, after seeing this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xa0WayfXO0 I might have to agree with her. :rotfl2: |
"I truly believe that video games were created by Satan to turn otherwise normal children into his drooling, glassy-eyed stooges. After my son plays them at his friends’ houses, he comes home irritable and testy for the rest of the day."
Utter BS. I am NOT glassy-eyed!! |

However, blaming videogames for bad behavior (especially related to young folks) is one big deal here at my neighbor country Germany. Games have been censored with no end over there, and since we players from Austria also speak german, we usually get their censored game versions. Blood or violence is almost always cut out of the german versions, as well as anything Nazi-Germany-related in WW2-games (f.e. crooked crosses) although I guess you can't really blame them for the last thing. :o After several runs of amok of young Germans who were playing at least partial video games (shooters like Counterstrike, ...), Germany now decided to blame video games for violent and dangerous behavior of their youth. Because of that, German politicans are now discussing to completely prohibit the production and import of violent video games. Some of them even compare the danger of video game violence with child pornography (!). :nope: Luckily, no study can prove any bad influence of video games on the players. It depends on the player's personality and life if he should ever feel like running around firing guns just like in his game. Instead of blaming all the evil video games, Germany's politicans should take more care of their youth, offer them easier access to education and jobs. Additionally, people who have problems within their family are more likely to become socially isolated and therefore might tend to run amok, so parents or other family members and their relationship with each other also play an important role in this. But hey, why focus on the actual problem, if you can just put your finger on something and say "This is the cause for the problem! Let's ban it and everything will be good again!"... Well, that's just my opinion though. :yep: |
