Will SH4 work on Windows 7?

I my old computer put up a great fight but the motherboard gave up the ghost and is now dead so I bought a new pc which has windows 7 and I am unsure if SH4 will run on it.

did you try letting it go to the default programs directory or did you tell it what to do

im very curious if it shares that vista tempermental thing with accessing games

No, I install all my games In in a folder for just games...

But it still found its directory before I changed it...

I have not installed it yet the reason for the question was to see if there where any know issues before I installed it.

It works fine. Just install outside of default "Program Files"-directory to make sure you won't run into problems with virtualization/permissions, ie.:

C:\Games\Silent Hunter 4

so Windows 7 does have the same "permissions" issues as vista?

MadDog09 12-27-09 11:45 AM

Works fine with Win 7 x64. No problems.

skwasjer 12-27-09 12:41 PM

i just wanted to be certain i understood it correctly so thats why i asked the question

if i am to tell others you definately cannot install the game in your windows 7 programs directory then i want to be sure i know what im talking about is accurate

You can install it to Program Files, but it is not recommended due to similar security restrictions as Vista. Windows 7 is a little less strict as Vista (f.ex. UAC) but has the same features that prevent overwriting key system/program files. Thus, when installing mods (JSGME) and using mod tools (like S3D) you will have similar problems... (the need to run 'elevated'). To circumvent that, installation outside of ProgFiles is absolutely a must. Vanilla it works perfectly fine though in ProgFiles...

Ditto, thanks a punch for the info regarding Win7.

I got SH4 on my Visva-laptop now since my Xp-pc went tits up,
need a new mobo for it. I may want to upgrade it to Win7 before
SH7 comes about, this laptop that is. Not gonna stop using XP.

Im running everything out of Program Files.
Never install anything to default folder..
M$ quite effectively killed the use of that folder.

Too much automation is too much too much automation.
