Well, Im moveing up to W7 this week, and am thinking about just getting rid of my old HD...

So, what ya think of er, and thoughts, ya own one. tell me the good stuff and the BS...

(If you surgest stuff, note im on a budget...)

Hm.. depends what you wanna achieve with a swap of hard drive.
Actually you will get some small speed up from this kind of hd and really much space to store data.
If you ask me.. I only would take such drives to store data.

I currently have a 456 GB HD(Samsung GD501LJ, came out of a old HP), and am have 206 GB of BS... but That is always getting smaller, with games, mods, stuff I DL...

Also, the price... WAY out of my range. lol

(and Im just going to get the one they have at the store. dont want to deal with the post...)

Oah, and I also need to go cheaper, upgradeing GPU next year.)

Actually, I'm running that exact same drive on slot 0 for my Win 7 drive. I installed it clean and the speed performance is very good. Playing FSX and SH4 maxed out without a shutter.

They are durable also because I use them for nightly backup at work so they get a huge workload every night (12 hrs solid of backup and verify).

No issues so far that I can see.

Got the same one, but 640GB version. Supposed to be very fast, but I haven't bothered with any tests.

Black edition are excellent drives, got another 640GB blue edition for data.

WD Black are good drives. However there are other good and cheap options. I'd seriously consider one of the new Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB drives. You can get them here in the Uk for about £55 which I am guessing would be less than $100 in the US. Review here:

If you had more cash to spend then just go and get an SSD if you really want to transform your computing experience. An SSD is the only thing at the moment which will make a huge improvement to your system. Use an SSD as your OS/applictions drive and in addition use a standard HD for storage and job done. :yeah:

Careful when you order the black dont let them try to substitute the green which is the same drive with 'energy saving features' like spinning the platters slower so it has a slower transfer rate.

Oh yea the damn thing doesent come with cables so be aware of that ;)

Back in the IDE age drives would come complete with all jumpers, cables, and any 'adaptors' you might require.

But since the market is so cost competive now these 'extras' are now omitted to keep the base price of the hardware down.

The price on these cables I find outragous. I payed nearly $20.00 us for mine. Im sure I could have gotten it cheaper but I wanted it 'right now' :03:

Then I could have probably made the cable for like 5 bucks.

My board came with 4 of them I think, but I didn't know they had those clips to make sure they stayed in place; I ordered 2 more when I purchased the parts. Think I paid less than $10,- for the 2.

I've always bought HDs as "bulk edition". Never seen one that came with extra parts. Even IDE drives only came with 1 or 2 jumpers already on the pins. :hmmm:

Sir, Using the smaller 6 myself, good drives for money, without being bias, always WD for me, never any problems as yet, have a spare 500gb green, good day.:)
