I'm done II

My apologies to the guy who makes the excellent SH3 commander. I have just experienced the "Not so long ago" crash once more and at the same point of a campaign as the two previous times i.e. after sinking my third ship. Before anyone says anything I wasn't submerged and I was miles away from the sinking.

After buying SH2 (Too linear, not realistic) & SH3 (Not finished) Ubisoft now owe me a free game.

I'm sorry you feel that way, as there are dozens of people on these boards who are more than willing to offer any help we can. Many people have experienced CTDs and had their problems solved. But they had to ask for help, not just say "It doesn't work!" and walk away.

On the other hand, even mentioning cracks and cracked versions of a game is the very quickest way to get into trouble on this forum. Subsim.com has a good working relationship with the gaming industry, and anything that hurts that relationship is severly frowned upon, to put it as politely as possible.

Steve,

We gamers pay for these products and the developers have become very rich from selling them. I can't think of any other product which you buy broken and then have to fix it yourself before you can use it. It is time gamers woke up and stopped taking it up the rear. If we stop paying for broken games then maybe they might start making ones that work.

You're done? Well, what a shame.

Hmm. I didn't want to make a comment in this thread really, but have to say that I'm just about at the same point Sea Sap is. I have bought SH3 three times, DVD in England, DVD and D2D here in the US. Multiple installations over the years, some that worked but most that didn't. Some months back the game refused to let me pass 1941 - couldn't even start a new career - just CTD on every load, even going back to earlier patrols. But, I'm addicted, so I completely uninstalled, cleared the registry and all folders/files to do with SH3. Re-installed and tried again - only to find that the new clean installation craps me out even more. So far, out of 14 careers started since October, not one got past the end of the fourth patrol before refusing to load, even from port. Going back to saves that previously worked makes no difference, they crash also. Once a crash occurs, all previous saves also crash. So I made a copy of the vanilla installation to a different HD location and tried again - same thing; end patrol 4 and that's your lot, starting 5 results in a crash that affects previous saves as well. Last night I tried again to start a new career, Aug '39 patrol was fine, patrol 2 crashed. New career again? No way. Even the first patrol wouldn't start. So what now? Make yet another installation and try again? Well, right now I'm really not in the mood - Morrowind is back and running just fine - can't find even ONE damn merchantman to sink though. :haha:

I'm done with buying games. The games industry can't be trusted to release working games so I'll just take them and buy them later if I find them to work. Judging by my experience thus far, I won't be spending much money.

There might be a conflict with whatever mods you might be running.
Have you tried the game totally clean and stock and still have this problem?
I run on Win XP and have no issues and can save with a convoy and escorts on top of me and start right up where I left off, no issues and no CTD.
I play with VERY limited mods to avoid any conflicts.
I am sorry to see these crappy problems inflicted on fellow gamers.:arrgh!:

Sea Sap 12-12-09 08:02 AM

I played it clean for about one month after I bought it without problems. However, it's an unfinished game without GWX. No Kiel Canal! Third iteration, now that's just lazy in my view.

Dowly 12-12-09 08:07 AM

You do realise that once you start using mod(s) Ubi isnt responsible anymore if the game works or not.

Also, you cant blame Ubi fully, it's your mix of hardware and software that is propably causing the problem, I dont think any game company has the time or resources to test every possible combination of hardware and software to see if the game runs.

RConch 12-12-09 08:07 AM

Maybe I missed something, getting old, have you tried to play just stock with GWX 3.0 only? No other mods at all?
When in the blue moon did I become a chinese sailor, Neal what are you up to?

If the game had been a finished product - at the third attempt - then no mods would have been required.

Developers are more interested in making money than making games and as long as fanboys keep buying them then they will keep on dipping your pockets and laughing behind your back.

That's what I was doing yesterday when the war was brought to an abrupt end once more. I had previously reinstalled stock and GWX only, just days before because I though SH3 Commader was the culprit.

I won't be trying anything else because I've lost patience. Currently eyeing up older games as at least there's a possibility modders may have fixed them.

I doesn`t read that the game hasn`t patched. There are different versions.
Do you maybe use a wrong patch?

hi Sea Sap.

maybe your computer configuration is wrong - hardware software etc. i had an ati radeon graphics card some years ago - played ****** havock with sh3. switched to a nvidea card in 07 and those problems went away. i have recently posted that i too have had "not so long ago.." ctd and it was a mod conflict; a racerboys mod and thomsens mod. took one out, cleeaned away that career and things seem to be running again.

but i do empathise with you. i stoped playing sh3 for about one year, i had so many problems with it - various things really; not enough ram, not enough graphics card, even starforce maybe. i gave up took it all out and played FEAR like hell and games like it for a long time. but now im back and im glad coz this is my all time FAVORITE.

maybe you need a rest - clear your head. then come back next year for sh5.
