FOTRS no objectives from port

I am getting this message again. I was able to head out of port last time by returning to base from an earlier save. This emant I atleast got to use my new balao, rather than take command and then be unable to relaunch.

Is there any way to force it to give me an objective? Could it be mistakenly picking one of those "no objective" ones that you get when you use the status report? (you know the..no mission at this time patrol or rtb at you descression ect ect)

I just got done bottlenecking a convoy through the subnet (and showing me where it was) and did some major damage, including a huge 41000 ton linter, a medium passenger, a pair of nkss-kat (whatever those are for 5100 each) a DD that got too close, a freighter hung up on the net and an old subchaser.

I still had all my tubes loaded, including my compliment of 3 cuties, and if a betty hadn't given me 30% hull damage I'd have stuck around, there was an oldsubchaser and DE convention outside the subnet...and they all park at night ;)

But this crap of "no objectives" is killing me. I've not tried transfering yet..that's next.

An objective is assigned using an objective code and there may be a mission that has a mistake or an objective code that has no mission for that date that matches that code.

Example from a flotilla.upc (from stock)

[Flotilla 1.UserPlayerUnitType 1.Objective 2]
ID= PH1Obj2
NameDisplayable= Marshalls patrols
AvailabilityInterval=NULL, 1944-04-01
ObjectiveCode= Marshall Islands

Then the objective code links to the PatrolObjectives.cfg using "All Match"

From PatrolObjectives.cfg

[Section 79]
ID=ID79
FileName=data/Campaigns/Campaign/PatrolObjectives/Patrol Marshall Islands 01/Patrol Marshall Islands 01.mis
StartDate=19411201
EndDate=19440301
GameModes=Career
InclusionProbability=100
MinimumDifficultyRating=0
MinimumPlayerRating=-3
ExclusiveLayer=No
ExclusiveLayerID=1
EvaluationReason=FirstObjective
AllMatch=Marshall Islands
ObjectiveType=0
BriefingMapName=NULL
BriefingMapIcon=NULL
BriefingMapIconPosX=0
BriefingMapIconPosY=0

You commented you are getting this message 'again'. I did not see your other post so I don't know exactly what the message is or if you got an answer. But if it is "No Objective found" then this may be where the problem is. And to help find it faster, you will need to give info for the EXACT message, at what point in the game you got it, the date, the sub, your Flotilla/Home port. So if it is a mistake in a mission or code it will be a bit easier to find.
Like I said I did not see your post when you had the message before, but anytime you have a problem give as much information as possible. You wouldn't take you car to the garage and say "It doesn't work, fix it". You would get answers from "It's out of gas" to "You need a new engine."

Edit: About your comment about transfer, you are assigned the mission when you enter port, so if you transfer, you take the mission with you. So if it is the problem above, a transfer probably won't work.

Ok, not sure about the flotilla, but:

Based out of brisbane.
uss Balao
it's july 15, '43 in port.

When I click the mission map is starts printing the orders:
Depart aug 3, 1943
Error: No primary objectives found

go to

\My Documents\SH4\data\cfg\SaveGames\

find your last savegame that is giving you the problem

open the CareerTrack.upc file

find the following entry

PlayerCurrentObjectives=

look at the number after ID

then match it to the mission number in the PatrolObjective.cfg file in

Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data\UPCData\UPCCampaignData\

look to see if the entries for the mission match the start date.

PlayerCurrentObjectives=ID70
PatrolStartDateTime=1943-08-03 00:13:18

Ok, well my launch date seems to be between the start and end date for the mission, assuming I am looking at the correct entries.

Thank you Lurker for the suggestion, I had forgotten you could check in the Careertrack. Appreciate it.

@Starforce: The Bismark mission does not have a Primary Objective, it is a hidden Objective, that may be the problem. It also has an event to Update the objective but no Objective to update to. I think they may have forgotten to put in the Primary Objective. Disable the mod, add a primary objective and save then re-enable the mod and see if it works.

well I can't really disable the mod..

but I assume you're asking me to open that .mis file?

What should I stick in there?

Would it be ok to just change the objective to primary? I have it open in the mission editor. Or do I need to do...something else?

lurker_hlb3 11-27-09 11:13 PM

Exit the game

Start the MissionEditor

select "open"

go to data/Campaigns/Campaign/PatrolObjectives/Patrol Bismark Sea 01/

select Patrol Bismark Sea 01.mis

select "explorer" tab

open the objective area and right click "Patrol Bismark Sea 01D_Objective1" to edit

using the "drop down" change the objective type from "hidden primary" to "primary"

Save mission

Starforce2 11-28-09 12:13 AM

how is this done manually..it wont let me save it via the editor. (which is odd considering the devs probably made it with one)

edit: nevermind...took a guess based on another mission and turns out I was right...needed a zero for the objective type.

I'll see if I can launch now.

edit: it worked

Yes, this is a fifteen-year-old post but occasionally i run into it and forget how to fix it. this is one solution not covered by lurker.

When a user displays their orders for their next mission and sees Objective <null>, the cause can be a disconnect between the mission.mis file and the mission.tsr file.
  1. Browse to your SH4 save folders and find the save folder for the current carrier. it will be the most-recently created folder.
  2. Find the file named CareerTrack.UPC. open it with a plain text editor.
  3. Look for a line that has PlayerCurrentObjectives=IDnnn, where nnn are numbers. This is your mission ID and a pointer for the next step. Write down that ID-number. Close this file and do not save.
  4. Browse to \Data\UPCDataGE\UPCCampaignData and look for a file named PatrolObjectives.cfg.
  5. open PatrolObjectives.cfg with a plain text editor. Find the IDnnn in that file. The line just under the ID-line will begin with FileName=Data\Campaigns\CampaignGE\PatrolObjective s\ followed by a folder and file of your next mission, the one giving you the <null>. Write down the folder and file name. Close this file and do not save.
  6. Browse to the folder that you just located: Data\Campaigns\CampaignGE\PatrolObjectives\ followed by a folder and file of your next mission.
  7. In that folder, you will see two files, a MIS file and a TSR file. Very briefly, the MIS has the mission definition and the TSR has the mission text.
  8. At this point, things may get complicated so I will stick with the Stock conditions.
  9. Open both of those files with a plain text editor.
  10. Normally, in the MIS file, Objective 1 is your Primary Objective. The Primary Objective name will appear as the first line. For example, ObjName=CO56. The name must appear in the TSR file spelled exactly the same as it is in the MIS file or else you will get the <null> error. In this example, the MIS contained CO56 and the TSR contained C056. The latter is a zero and the former is an oh, which yields the error.
  11. The fix is to have the two values exactly the same. Change one, save the file and then close the other file without saving.
  12. Relaunch SH4, load your save, check your orders and you should no longer see Objective: <null>.
