German newsreels.

I found this on Youtube and thought I'd share. Not sure if it's been posted before but check out his other vids for loads (500+) of other WWII newsreels. I just wish I could understand German.

thx for posting this vid!

first they tell about maintenance-works at the boat, they check the rudders and the bow too. after that they report about a meeting of this u-boot with a milk-cow in the indian ocean. they transferred food, oil, torpedoes and even a sick sailor was sent to the milk-cow.
then there are pictures of cooking and having meal provided with the new supplies. the shower i found interesting: it says that the warm water of the diesels (the cooling, i suppose?!) makes a refreshing shower on board.
because they haven't found a ship out in open seas, they now sail to the east coast of Africa, where they hope to find tonnage. and indeed, after smoke came into sight they plan attacking. the Kaleu comes up and notices all the necessary data for the two torpedoes he is willed to shoot.
and they hit. a life-boat can be seen through periscope. and then the freighter sinks.

that's the words in general.
impressive pictures!

It was particularly interesting to see the two planesman rushing to their positions for submerging the boat at 4:26 http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...s/thumbsup.gif

I wish i could take a look at it. :damn:

Video is not available in your country due to copyright issues. WHO claims the copyright on 60+ year old stuff from thousands of unknown cameramen?

Try this link for an absolute treasure trove of German newsreels, pre, during and post war. No doubt there'll be something here for everyone:

Phantomlord: I highly suspect that "copyright issues" is a smokescreen for your country to block anything produced by or seen to be in favor of the Nazi Party or any of its works. Since IIRC any reference to same is banned there, most ISP's and web hosts have to be very particular and exacting in making sure they aren't shut down for letting anything slip past.

KL-alfman 11-23-09 06:31 PM

@ phantomlord:
i too think it's a pity you can't see the vid.
i can assure you, nobody will become a nazi just by watching the coverage of above mentioned small video. it just shows a bit more of the true life out in open sea in a (compared to their enemies) tiny u-boot.

btw:
i'm in germany (near aachen) atm and i can't watch it now due to the same reason you wrote before. ridiculous!

It's called Politicly Corect.
It is Censurship, and it is dangerouse to Freedom Of Speech, and much more importantly,
Freedome Of Thought.

Social commentary here, off-topic I suppose.

Even though I learned Spanish in school here in the US (most of which I've forgotten by now due to lack of use,) it always makes me feel fairly lazy when most people in Europe speak at least two languages really well. It makes me want to get my learn on.

In the meantime...thanks for the help with translations. :D
