win7 and HD activity
This is getting so annoying. Vista use to thrash my HD all the time, and now for some reason Win7 decided it is going to do the same. Indexing has been turned off for the most part of what I can control and I shut down Disk Keeper just to see if it was the culprit. Avast, the free version is real limited on what you can set, but I think its not scanning.
Anyone have a clue why it does this all the time? |
In XP you could bring up the task manager (internet offline), select services & one by one "End Task" don't know if that can be done in win 7, if you can just keep closing services, you might find the HD accessing stops and you would have a good idea what is causing it, then restart computer and hopefully work on a solution.:hmmm: Good Luck!:yep:

Found the culprit, Outlook 2007. I always leave it run for email and reminders.
HD activity really doesn't bother me that much but this was an annoying constant pulse that made the HD activity really loud, and my PC is right here beside me :stare: The resource monitor made it easy to track down the problem because it has a Disk activity tab that shows programs and the R/W rate, I just now got around to it. |
In XP I use MailWasher Pro, this runs instead of Outlook Express, checks for emails and lets you know if you have mail, you can then process them, this will delete junk mail/process good mail by then running Outlook Express.:yep:

I use Windows Live Mail. From what I understand this type of mail will eliminate Outlook. I have not see it yet.

This isn't outlook express, it's the office full version and I use it in many other ways then email.
As far as using web based email, I have had an hot-mail aka live account for a long time, but I prefer using a local client so I can use multiple email accounts in a central location. |
I use Outlook at work and it is a great email for work related communication. But I do think Outlook's days are numbered. Hard to say 2007 has the newer version.
|
Yea, using 2007, but 2010 is already close to RTM.
I see cloud computing increasing even where I work. Were exploring many different areas for our sales force. There are pro's and con's to having it local or remote and consideration for deployment is one thing were exploring. |
Gosh you are right. 2010 is around the corner. I use live mail and it acts just like outlook.

True AVG, but when you try to track companies, prospects, quotes, ect, like we do in BCM (business contact manager) it gets really complicated.
This is why were looking into the cloud. |
