[REL] CSL Deck Gun Optics

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y91...kgunoptics.jpg

What this does:
This modifies the gun sight so that there are hash marks along the vertical and horizontal line to help lead the target correctly. Especially helpful when firing at targets with large lead angles. The hash marks are not in any way calibrated into degrees or mils, but are equally spaced. Due to the way the game does the deck gun aiming, the hash marks on the vertical line are useless, but it looked wrong without them.

This isn't quite realistic, but it's more realistic than not having them. The reason is that in an actual gun crew, the sight setter is responsible for dialing in corrections in both elevation and windage. Given that in sh4 the only windage we can use is of the Kentucky variety, this mod provides good results.

Compatibility:
Should be compatible with all other mods that do not do the same thing. It only alters one dds file.

Installation:
JSGME ready
Install using the normal JSGME method. If you want to be 100% sure that no other mod will overwrite this one, install this one last.

License:
I made this mod primarily for personal use and I really couldn't care less what you do with it.

Of course I would remember *just after* I post it, but I think the optics I modified where stock. I'm honestly not 100% sure though, otherwise I wouldn't post this. If you did the originals and want a credit, feel free to let me know.

address removed for basic safety and common sense reasons :timeout:

please dont ever put your address in a public forum, there are just too many crazy people in this world.

i strongly recommend you remove it from your mods read me as well

ps - it wouldnt hurt to remove the (****) stuff too

As stated in pm, it's not my address, but the address of the guy who wrote the license and is part of the legal document.

you might get some complaints over realism but i like the way it looks

Well, realistically you should be able to adjust windage to zero out the scope, but you can't in game so it's a compromise.

it's too bad there wasn't a way to send the range from the scope to the deck gun (atleast on auto target) and then lock it there.. Or that the markings when using the deck gun without the zoom weren't a bit easier to see.

Nice job on the scope optics, I'm using it now. :yeah:

It would certainly be nice to be able to send a range to the deck gun to make things a little easier. Even without it though, I do routinely get ranges from the periscope, tbt, or even radar for longer range shooting and then dial it in by hand.

Some tips for anyone not in the know:

Dunno if it's been noticed or not, but even though the increments on the elevation scale read yards, they're really meters. Keeping that in mind, I can and do score first round hits all the time based ranges gotten from radar or other means. Simple rule is for every thousand yards, subtract 100 to get meters. Ex: 6800 yards is about 6200 meters (not perfect but probably closer than your round dispersion anyways). Also, if you point the red crosshair thingy in about the right place, the scale inside the optics will be set to whatever you had the red hud thing lined up to.

One interesting engagement I had involved blind shooting the deck gun in heavy fog using sonar readings! Pinged to get range, then had the sonar guy track the target to provide continuous bearing updates. Good fun.

Range Settings

Range settings from the TDC and the UZO or Ships Binocs were sent to the gunners via intercom.

Not automated but it worked. If No intercom then they were conveyed verbally

so, in the stock game, if I have the game set to english measurement the deck gun is still meters? Explains why I sometimes miss.

Yep, though to be honest, I'm not 100% sure what the unit of measure is when you have it set to metric. It may be that both are metric and it could be accidently flipped. Just try it and see if that's an issue for you.

Rereleased!

Minor changes and uploaded to subsim.

If you're already using this, it's not worth redownloading.
