Frustration is over Eleventy Billions!

So after coming back to SHIII last week, I'm on my 12th patrol, driving a Type II (U-139, which incidentally was also a Type IID in real life) out of Kiel.

While heading home from a failed attempt to intercept a convoy (Heading straight for my position, no less), we receive a report of a convoy south of Harwich, heading northeast at 7 knots. As my boot is close enough to intercept this one as well, (U-139 is sitting happily in grid AN81) I guesstimate where the convoy should end up after 12 hours or so, and head there. An hour later another, this time of a convoy heading into Harwich, at 8 knots. As the two reported groups were close together, I assumed it was the same group, and changed courses again, this time sailing for home.

Almost exactly 12 hours after the first report came in, a final report comes in, this time of a convoy heading northwest at 7 knots - exactly where I had estimated it would be.

On the bright side, I had run into a 5000-something ton freighter earlier, so it wasn't really a total loss.

i have tried to get a torpedo hit on HMS Duke of York, missing for five times in a row.

sollution becomes hard when its traveling at 24-26 knots, in extrmley rough seas but at least fog is light...

the annoying part is that even the acoustig torps cannot hit it due to its redicilous speed...

Such were the frustrations of many a Kaleun before you :DL

5.000 tons ain't bad, Weiss.
My current boat has had 2 dud patrols (0 GRT), out of 5.
To quote BDU: "Keep up the good work".

So I was on the way home when I received this report:

Unfortunately:

:wah:

(To give some backround, I had just used up my last two torpedoes on a pair of destroyers that had kept my boat down for most of the previous day)

psykopatsak 11-01-09 05:15 PM

there will be much more, mr pinguin, i promise :P

Promised myself to do the whole war in however many VIIBs and VIICs it takes.
Then I can go back to the beginning, and do it my way in a beautiful IXB (after I earn it).
I just had to see what it would be like, to start late war carreers in a VIIC.

It's interesting, but I prefer the IXB, and yes Lorient over St. Nazaire, anyday.

Did you get them?

I got one. Both eels should've been perfect shots, however the first torpedo was set to impact pistol for some reason, (I always, always set my pistols to magnetic, even early war) and it passed harmlessly underneath the destroyer. You can't begin to imagine my frustration as I dove down again to reload my aft tube...

That's certainly the realistic way to do it, since they didn't know about the problems until after they happened, and even then weren't absolutely sure what was going on.

dude, I've had that happen a couple times too. Just heading home, and a d*mn convoy within a couple hours of cruising! :damn:

Radio 11-11-09 06:30 AM

I can feel your pain, Weiß Pinguin. :yep:
What's even worse is when you see a small convoy (2 auxiliary cruisers escorted by one destroyer) zipping by and not being able to come close enough for a shot because of their speed.

Had to brighten up the pic a bit in Irfanview, it was too dark.

And later the very same thing happened with this 2 beauties (they were accompanied by several destroyers).

And I even had all torpedo tubes fully loaded :damn:
