Tell tale sign of missing texture. You must have installed a mod that is either conflicting with another or somehow the texture used for the fire (the .dds or .tga) is missing. You find the missing texture and your fire will be back to normal :yep:

sorry for my late reply, but well i found out there was some kind of overshifting in my jgsme, but even disabling the wrong mods fire's still freaked out. i have a longer smoke's mod on. i'll try to run vanilla asap (1 month i fear) and then report.

thanks!

I'm willing to bet that the longer smoke's mod you speak of included this file: particles.dat. Am I correct? It might have also included materials.dat (both of these files are located in \data\Library). These two files are the default files that come with SH3/4 that make up the standard effects used in the game (fires, smoke, explosions, etc.). I would restore those two files to their default (as installed) version and your fire problem will probably not be a problem anymore.

indeed you might be right; it's a shame although, since the longer smoke strails were much more realistic and useful in real-life "birdwatching". i wonder if there's way to fix this...
