Can the GWX mod be made to run more smoothly?

Salute All = S!

I have a rather slow pc.
When I play basic SH3 everything slows down when I get close to a convoy.

I installed the latest GWX mod the other day.

Now the game runs even slower.

Is it possible to copy the GWX Missions, uninstall GWX moded SH3, and paste the GWX missions in a basic install of SH3?

I would like to keep the GWX missions and the GWX navigation dials for an otherwise unmodded SH3 with patch 1.4b.

Would this work or cause a system hang?

Thanks, any help will be appreciated!

S!

This approach will not work out. If you use GWX mission and campaign files, they will call units not present in stock SHIII. As a result the game will crash. Sorry, but there is no way to make it run smoother on your rig or to use the GWX mission files.

You also can take the Radio Messages, so you have an better feeling to get involved in the Atlantik War.

The Slideout one's and the compass are also have a part in the Menu.ini file.
i think you just can copy the Menu.ini with the tga files thats needed for the Dials and the Compass, or search for the entrys in the ini and copy them in to the unmodded SH3. But there are so many things in the Menu.ini... An GWX Team Member should explain it too you, so you have other things that don't take fps and nice eyecandy expansion for the Vannilla. :yep:

No offense meant, Rapt0r. But I advise not to mess around with the Menu.ini file. Itīs not only the Menu.ini that makes the GUI change. If you use the Menu.ini separately, you most probably end up with a CTD again as a lot of other files are affected too.

But there are some awesome GUI mods available at SubSim. Check them out. Iīd recommend OLCīs GOLD MkII.

My computer is also rather slow, after I installed OLC Gui 1.27, it seems I'm getting better framrates. Maybe because the Gui is not showing all the dials all the time? And maybe the overlay of the boat is gone, which for me seemed to put load on the CPU as well...

Make sure you have GWX 16km athmosphere deactivated, e.g. my computer couldn't run it with framerates better than 2-3!

Ways to reduce the system load of GWX (any other supermod):

Activate Light Harbour Traffic Mod (or start at sea with SH3 Commander).
Drop the Particles slider in the SH3 main options.
(as said) Do not use the 16km ATM Mod.
Reduce your GFX cards AA & AF settings. Basically turn them off and work up.

Rather more advanced method:
Open every Ship folder and size down the texture file for every skin. GWX default is 512x512, downsize them to 256x256.
You can also downsize the wakes and wave crest files. These are higher res and more detailed than stock SH3 and will slowdown lower end PCs.
You can also reduce the amount of ships in GWX convoys BUT ONLY if you are patient and versed in the Mission Editor. You can gimp your game doing this.

That's about it. In no way should you try to copy or replace core GWX files. The game will not work.

Danlisa is right.
A couple of more things you can do
Try the Omega drivers for your video card (google it) if it is an older card.
Turn particles down all the way in options.
Turn off the music.
Obtain and use AlacrityPC (google it) and get rid of all the carp in your RAM memory.
As you leave port, go to F4 and rotate the view 360 degrees.
Do not use the sea floor mod, it is a frame killer.
In campaigns, using the Med and or Black sea compaign files only will load faster and run better.
Be careful of mods; some of them really kill the frame rate (as noted above, the 16Km mod is a no no, but there are some others that will do this all so. (also if in the USA)
If you can afford it add as much ram as your computer can use.
Last of all: Don't give up!!!!!
