Torpedo question
Is there a certain distance they have to travel before they arm? I've had 2 MK10's HIT targets under 1000 yards and dudded on me :nope:
|
I belive it is about 450 yards. Not 100% sure though.
|
With most mods
500 yds. is armed, on a closeing DD if you fire at 600 likely depending on offset for helming. It's tricky 50%
|
I'd put it at 450 yards to arm.If going against a DD and going for a down the throat shot, I fire at 600 yards, usually they cant evade them that close but have fired at 500 and fish armed.
Your Mark 10's were armed, they were duds.If they do not arm, they just hit and crew makes no report, if they report torpedo as a dud, it means that it armed, hit but failed to explode.Mark 10's rarely dud but it does happen from time to time.:damn: |
Are you sure they hit?
Perhaps they slipped beneath the keel. The whole reason I carry Mk10's at times is I know there alot more reliable than there later counterparts. Less duds, less premies. The downside is they have one setting... slow  Come to think on it I dont ever recall a Mk10 fired properly not detonating. Sent a few off into the wild blue though :haha: |
they arm after traveling 350 so thats your minimum arming distance for hitting a ship traveling away from you or is holding its distance from you.
if the ship is coming at you then it is closing the torpedo traveling distance so you will need to fire while you are still at 450 in order in order for it to have time to travel a distance of 350 and arm. now these are minimum distances so you should allow at least an extra 50 to be safe and that would give you a "safe" minimum arming distance of 400 and 500 if head on and closing with your target |
If you get the crew message "Torpedo was a dud, sir." That means it's already armed and dudded while live. If you fire point blank well short of the arming range it won't give a dud crew message.
|
Did not get the message "Torpedo was a dud" or "Torpedo missed" Both times were at DD's coming in fast so they must have closed the distance before they could arm :damn: Usually like to use the MK14 set fast shallow and influence in case it does run under the keel, managed to bust a few keels.
Lesson learned Don't fire slow moving MK10 at fast moving DD even on a dead on bow shot under 1000 yards. Thank You Captains. |
