Looks yummy to me,:yep: what Asus board are you considering? The one I would like is the M4A79 Deluxe, so I can use my current AM2+ chip but caters for the AM3 as well, is ram DDR2 or 3? Looks like a system I would like!!!:yeah:

Not really. Win7 is just a few more goodies over Vista. I run Vista64 and love it. Makes no sense to pay $150.00 for a few extra goodies if I already have Vista working like a champ... IMO. :D

AVG - thats true if your talking about an existing pc that is solid.

For a new build PC, why go short $60 (The diffference between Vista and 7 Ultimate OEM) to run an OS that will have to be upgraded before the lifecycle of the PC is done?

Also - assuming this is a game machine, and since its his first build - 7 is "cleaner". Yes, Vista has stabilized greatly since its early days, but it still has a lot of "bloat", most of which must be manually removed. An investment like a built PC, I look at the long term vs short term, and balance that against speed and stability.

AVGWarhawk 10-26-09 06:59 PM

I have no bloat. This machine of mine was made and only the OS installed. It was made for games However, my parents us a Toshiba with Vista. Runs like a top and has for 3 years. I'm talking people who are in their mid 70's and a friggin TV remote is a challenge. For them to run Vista without blowup the laptop is saying alot. My kid's school has Acer desktops with Vista. All run just fine. Vista is a good OS. I do not understand why bloatware is a problem. Most computer users have computers for email, facebook and shopping. They care for little else concerning gaming speeds, etc. They just want the darn thing to start and send over the internet. I do not understand why people get their jollies timing how fast the friggin OS boots up. Wow, 7 booted 5 seconds faster than Vista. Over the life span of the computer I will have generated 10 minutes of extra time to check speeds on other things.

Vista is very simple....feed the power it needs to run and all will be well. What haz is put together here will run Vista without issue.

BTW, computers are never an investment. They are worthless crap in about 6-7 years if all goes well.

Vista64...that is what I run. Love it and it is stable. Give the devil his due on Vista but Vista is a good OS now. For your temps check your motherboard paperwork for temps and the CPU paperwork for max temps. There should be a graph on temp shutdown points etc. I think your temps are good. Is this temp under a load?

FIREWALL 10-27-09 11:14 AM

Hi Haz. :DL From what you have posted, the CPU running at the temps stated is a concern to me.

I understand AMD runs hotter than Intel but, every where I read reviews on AMD newer CPU they always recommend to use different, Heatsink and Bigger fan.

There's alot of fans in the $25.00-$40.00 range out there to cool that cpu down a bit.

Good luck and happy playing on your new rig.

Haz shows the temp in fahrenheit and not celsius. 93 in fahrenehit is around 33 celsius. That is good at idle. I run x4 9850's and idle temp is around 30C.

FIREWALL 10-27-09 11:47 AM

@ AVG Yes his temps aren't bad looking at his later post.

Do you use stock heatsink and fan ?

AVGWarhawk 10-27-09 11:53 AM

I have just a step up from the standard fan and heatsink. Basically cost about $5.00 more than standard. I do not recall the name. I will see if I can find it.

EDIT:

Here is a picture. I forget the make. It was like 18.00 for all.
