Classical interlude - A little something musical for you all.
Perhaps to calm things down a little in GT, I offer you some Ralf Vaughan Williams
The quality is not always great (which is a shame) but you get the idea. Not entirely sure of the dates on some of these, or even who is performing them, although you can tell some of the amateur ensembles (who aren't bad for all that). Some of my favourite pieces, old and new performances: new The lark Ascending pt1 bbc concert orchestra (janine jansen) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbcuteYm-EA The lark Ascending pt2 bbc concert orchestra (janine jansen) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsOOQB0uA5Q&NR=1 old The lark Ascending pt1 adrian boult/LPO (jean pougnet) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Juqkn__mWzo The lark Ascending pt2 adrian boult/LPO (jean pougnet) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KpzTIfvnfQ&NR=1 date? Sinfonia Antartica is awesome  and Tallis Fantasia is absolutely breathtaking. For me popular music can never match the sheer beauty and emotion that classical music can express.
But I think Shostakovich's 8th String Quartet, 2nd movement is more fitting for the atmosphere here. :DL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjvTT...9B2B86&index=2 |
Some of my personal favorites:
Sergej Rachmaninoff - op.39 No.2 (The Sea and the Shearwaters ... err I mean Seagulls :DL): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj1zINasTlw - op.34 No.14 (Vocalise): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIq-1iILP5Q (there are dozens of versions of this piece - I recommend the version orchestrated by the master himself) - op.29 (Isle of the Dead): - Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bszAvKbO3Zk - Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FvDAgsmpqA Everything pretty soothing, or rather melancholy. Enjoy. |
