Trigger Maru 1.7 crashes SH4 v1.5 + Uboat
Hello everybody
Brand new submarine simmer, I wanted to try out SH4 because it looked interesting. After reading about all the great things TM does for SH4 I would like to start playing with that modset enabled vs. just running stock. My copy of SH4 (+ Uboat missions) is from Steam. Being brand new to the game it's a stock clean 1.5 install. I downloaded and unzipped the TMO 1.7 file from the subsim library. Installed the GME and imported the mod. Activated it and the 4/17 hotfix (in that order) and everything seemed okay. But when I launch SH4 it does not load, and crashes to the desktop with an error in Simdata.dll. The loading bar gets about 3/4 the way across then it crashes, can't even get to the main menu. I deactivated the hotfix and still no go. If I deactivate TMO then the sim launches okay, so apparently the install is okay? But trying to launch with the TMO installed always results in a crash. I was under the impression that the most recent TMO did not need that Uboat fix because TMO was updated somehow to work with the Uboat addon without needing a patch. I did a search but as you might understand there are many TMO threads and many are very long and thus I searched for a while but was not able to find anything conclusive. Thus I thought I might post and ask for help. Thanks Norman |
I take it you installed a mods folder using jsgme into you game dir. Seem's so many put the mod's folder in the data file or outside the game dir. Once you open the SH4 dir, you should see all your game files, ect. GME can show an activated mod, but in the wrong place it will not load.
However, I doubt that's your problem. It's been a long time and I'll research it if no one answers, something to do with the startup movie and deleting that usually fixes it, but this was limited to certain video drivers. If you're patched to 1.5, you're up to date and ready for 1.7. |
Here it was. You can read the thread, but it seems it's a DX issue and running the DX from the disc usually fixes it for people. If that doesn't do it, you can delete the starting intro.
SH4 requires DirectX 9, if you have DirectX 10 that is fine ,but you need 9 also. Are you video and sound drivers up to date? Make sure your SH4 game start shortcut points to sh4.exe and not gu.exe. This is a major problem for Vista users. Probably not the problem, but something you should do. Lastly, could be a corrupt mod problem, would delete it and try another DL. Happened to me a few times. http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...345#7071086345 |
Is it me, or are there more and more novice skippers coming in with complaints about SH4 not working and they got it from Steam?:06:

I'm pretty sure I have the mod folder in the correct place but I can double check again when I go home. Also after the mod was activated I did see the updated splash screen with the TMO picture on it so I am pretty sure that the mod was activating correctly.
If the mod is activated does the intro movie not play anymore? Because when I had the mod activated I didn't see the intro movie but when I deactivated it the intro movie would show up again. I know many updates for things like this tend to disablethose things because serious simmers don't want to view the movie every time but I'm not sure if not seeing the intro movie is by design or possibly indicating a problem I did delete and redownload the sim last night but haven't tried to use it yet. Initially I downloaded/installed sh4 and then afterwards downloaded the uboat addon (they are 2 different entries in steam) but I saw another thread elsewhere indicating that it may be better to just install the uboat entry and it will automatically load the stock sim too (and it solved that persons problem) so I did that and will see if that works. Thanks for being patient with a newcomer I know what it's like to be the experienced player answering the questions of clueless noobs from my experience in other sims :) Ruahrc p.s. I am running windows xp sp3 (dx10 is installed on vista only correct?) and as far as I can tell I have direct x 9 working properly as I was able to install and run a recent game (anno 1404 dawn of discovery) with no problems. Graphics card is an Ati x1900gt although I do use the omega drivers has there been a known issue with those drivers and sh4? But still, the game loads and runs okay if the TMO mod is not installed so unless the mod is doing something more substantial than adjusting game configuration settings and replacing textures then I am not sure it would be a video issue. But again with the clueless noob thing... |
p.p.s as steam seems to have it's own game updating scheme there is no gu.exe in the sh4 root folder and I had the same trouble with TMO when claunching direct from sh4.exe as opposed to launching it via steam (which basically aliases to the exe anyways).

Hmm, whatever I did seemed to work.
I reinstalled the game from Steam like I mentioned, and after that reloaded the TMO mod. It still crashed. Following the lead re: the DirectX thing, I did find a Directx folder in the SH4 directory, and ran the setup file located within. Launched SH4, worked! Spent time getting a basic grasp on things like navigation and the deck gun. Manually launching torpedoes is hard. Will need to practice quite a bit. But at least I'm running now! Norman |
Steam....but if you didn't have DX9, that was probably the issue.

Yeeee Hawwwww! Now get out there and do battle with some of Ducimus' evil airplanes.:arrgh!:
