FOTRS Bug ... Need help

Ok, I have a pretty big problem with FOTRS ...

When on patrol, if I hit Esc to save my game, the game crashes and my computer reboots. I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it.

I have FOTRS + FOTRS - Bug Fix + FOTRS Carrier upgrade installed over a clean SHv1.5.

Can someone please help me troubleshoot on where I need to go as far as files to look at editing?

I also found another bug, but think I fixed it. When in the Museum, if I zoomed in on any unit, the same crash and reboot would happen. I went and edited the command file and found that the external unit camera was dissabled. I re enabled it and I think the problem is gone.

Having never used (Esc) key, no problem.

Have you tried exiting to menu, or windows,in tab above clipboard/TC interface

I don't think you understand my problem. I never get to any menu. As soon as I hit esc, my computer crashes and reboots.

Before I would always hit esc to save my game and quit. But I am unable to do this.

I am unaware of any other method or button to get to the exiting menu. I am sorry but I don't know what tab you are talking about ... ???

"Your not doing it right" Ohoo, she said !

You do know the flashng button, when you get a message on clipboard ? Directly above that is the exit interface, where you load, save, exit.:timeout:
"try it you'll like it" She said.

:hmmm: Even with FOTRS you should be able to exit the game using the button in the lower-right corner of the Orders bar. (The "Esc" key was used in SH3.)

I tried this, it caused the same crash and reboot.

However, I have noticed one thing. If I am in the control room, and try to hit esc or the menu button on the lower right ... I get the crash.

I was in the crew management station, and I was able to exit just fine ... I have a strong hunch there is a text edit somewhere causing this ...

Either way, I am unable to save my game while playing ... which is bad. This method you described does not work either. Same crash and reboot.

REINSTALL

No FOTRS bug here.

Mine is working fine too. Somehow you have some corrupt files. Reinstall, redownload FOTRS, and go again.

I did a complete reinstall, patched up to 1.5 and installed FOTRS.

I STILL get the same damn random crash + Reboot.

AGGHHH.

I am really excited to play this mod and it just won't work.

I am not a retard, I know how to install mods and I don't understand.

- I installed SH4.
- I patched SH4 incramentally (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 ...) up to v1.5.
- I unpacked FOTRS and bugfix and CV upgrade.
- I installed bugfix and CV upgrade to FOTRS before I activated it.
- I activated FOTRS

Game crashes and is not playable.

The only thing I can think of is that the download for the mod itself is corrupt. If I just keep downloading corrupted files, there will never be a fix ... other than that I have no ideas ...

Unless the creator of the mod used vista to create / save files and I am using those files on my XP system ... but that should not matter I don't think ...

Not knowing, but this should be JSGME after FOTRS

- I unpacked FOTRS and bugfix and CV upgrade.
- I installed bugfix and CV upgrade to FOTRS before I activated it. Is that what readme says ? Try with FOTRS only.

Hi Scharnhorst,

FOTRS was build on an XP-System so that is not the source of your problem.

Yesterday i checked the FOTRS-Files on ouer server and all files are OK !

Did you got 2 Gig Ram ?
FOTRS is to big for 1 Gig-Systems.

Greets

Maddy

Scharnhorst1943 09-05-09 12:43 AM

Thank you for your reply MadMax,

I do have exactly 2gig of ram. However I still get random crashes during game. I don't understand why either. I am using JSGME to enable the mod.

I am also following your instruction to install FOTRS updates before activating the mod ...

I guess I will re-download it and try another reinstall.

It just kind of bites ... I was REALLY excited to try your mod. I hope I can get it to work. It looks like an incredible mod.

Scharnhorst1943 09-07-09 10:55 AM

Well,

I did everything right, I still get the random crashes.

Museum crashes if I zoom in

During patrol, I get random crashes at random times ...

I installed everything like I was supposed to. NATA.

I just hope the new update of FOTRS will work for me ... oh well.

Scharnhorst1943 09-14-09 07:28 PM

OK, I have finally figuired it out.

There was no bug with FOTRS. I was playing a graphics entensivce game and my motherboard kept crashing. Eventually, it no longer rebooted.

So I fried a motherboard ... ordered all new parts off Newegg and have a new computer en route.

AGGGG !!!

Well, once I get the new PC up and going I will really enjoy this mod. Unfortunately with engineering college classes in full swing and getting back together little by little ... It will be December before I have time.

Oh well ...

After just noticing this thread I could have told you it was a hardware issue long before the fried MB. A computer crashing and auto rebooting is a tell tale sign. Sorry I couldn't have helped earlier, you might have been playing tonight!
