I want SHV to not require a program like Commander. (ie. have it all built in already)

I agree! SH4 incorporated some of the features included in SH3Cmdr, so hopefully SH5 will incorporate those and the rest.

I have announced elsewhere though that should an SH5Cmdr be needed, I'll take up the challenge: I learnt a lot through developing SH3Cmdr and as I said a few times, were I to do it again I'd do it much differently!

Anyway, I'm not thinking much about it for now; I'm remaining positive that SH5 will make an SH5Cmdr unnecessary.

The thing I like least about SH4 is the way they did the crew names. I'm hoping SH5 will have Commander's real names to draw upon.

Well if they do it right there will be no need for SH5Commander... :salute:

We can only hope...

FIREWALL 08-31-09 01:05 PM

Please !!! Not Commander. :nope: I'd like it to sound more BdU , Kriegsmarine. :yeah:

SH5 is about U-Boots, People.:yep:

I'd like to do something like an online score tracking and logsystem, so we should have a chat sometimes (be useful to have a client app that uploads it ;)) I have a feeling this can something to the way people represent themselfs in the global community (you know, global list of players, active mods list, avatar, scores, mission logs). We could develop these components seperately and you just hook into the API I make then... But, let's wait and see first...

Oh and yea, this does mean I won't be doing another MOD-tool :p

Cool. I wanted to do something similar a few years ago with SH3Cmdr but couldn't find anyone to support the server end. We can certainly chat further if the need arises.

I'll certainly be for a more modularised approach this time around.

I think there will always be a need for Commander. The Dev. team can't do it all and Commander has alway been a great interface.

I like the thought process you guys are currently on.

yeah, nice idea, skwasjer! would be nice to have a system, where nobody can cheat! everybody who wants to participate has to download a small client which checks the sh5 install and reads out the installed mods. after the game, the client loads up the stats to the gamers account. there, the players can have leagues etc...

i have noticed that things designed to prevent people from cheating more often than not, only end up preventing you from using your favorite mods much more often than they work at stopping anyone from cheating.

I could likely provide backend datacenter and virtual server resources for such a thing. Put me on the mailing list if this gathers steam.

FIREWALL 09-10-09 03:21 AM

@ JScones. Do's this mean there has to be an internet connection to use this mod ?

JScones 09-13-09 04:00 AM

Internet access would be required to use the internet based features, but that would be it. There'd be no "blanket" requirement to have the internet connected.

Much like SH3Cmdr - the only time you need the internet connected is if you check for updates, otherwise it doesn't care.
