I wonder why this is?

John Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock

(MADE IN JAPAN ) for 6 am.

While his coffeepot

(MADE IN CHINA )

was perking, he shaved with his

electric razor

(MADE IN HONG KONG )

He put on a

dress shirt

(MADE IN SRI LANKA ),

designer jeans

(MADE IN SINGAPORE )

and

tennis shoes

(MADE IN KOREA)

After cooking his breakfast in his new

electric skillet

(MADE IN INDIA )

he sat down with his

calculator

(MADE IN MEXICO )

to see how much he could spend today. After setting his

watch

(MADE IN TAIWAN )

to the radio

(MADE IN INDIA )

he got in his car

(MADE IN GERMANY )

filled it with GAS

(from Saudi Arabia )

and continued his search

for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.

At the end of yet another discouraging

and fruitless day

checking his

Computer

(made in MALAYSIA ),

John decided to relax for a while.

He put on his sandals

(MADE IN BRAZIL ),

poured himself a glass of

wine

(MADE IN FRANCE )

and turned on his

TV

(MADE IN INDONESIA ),

and then wondered why he can't

find a good paying job

in AMERICA

AND NOW HE'S HOPING HE CAN GET HELP FROM A PRESIDENT

MADE IN KENYA.

Biggles 08-30-09 04:28 AM

The alternative would be a president MADE IN PANAMA?

You do realise that you yourself, the American people, have given the corporations, which you hold sacrosanct, the ability through a free market policy to go abroad, to find cheaper labour, so that they can sell you more stuff much cheaper, so that you can spend more on other products, for which you usually need to take a loan.

So if you chose to move factories abroad, why shouldn't you have a president who is American (has a citizenship), yet doesn't come from what you may consider "core" USA?

Biggles 08-30-09 05:53 AM

Obama is from Hawaii, yes? Was born in 1961, yes? Hawaii one of the 50 states, yes?

From Wikipedia:

The state (Hawaii) was admitted to the Union on August 21, 1959.

Obama is just as much an american as McCain.

Thats what the Mayflowers guys tried to tell the natives.

Torplexed 08-30-09 10:00 AM

Debt, failing banks, bailouts, moribund bureaucracy and billionaire swindlers (MADE IN THE USA)

Same for the UK, but that's how it happens in a lot of nations. You start in primary industry, farming and the like, then you move into Secondary Industry, heavy industry and production, and then you move into Tertiary industry which is light industry, things like software, and the like.
Regrettably, along the line, companies then find it easier to import primary and secondary industry products from third and second world nations which offer cheaper offers through mass production and have less trade regulations.

Well, that is the gamble you have, there has been a lot of problems with imported Chinese goods, talks of sabotage and the like, plus problems with internal Chinese goods, the baby food scandal of not long ago comes to mind.
However, what it boils down to, going back to Mr John Smith. If he doesn't have a job, then when his Japanese alarm clock conks out, will he buy a cheap Japanese or Chinese clock, or a more expensive one from somewhere in the EU or the US?
People vote with their wallets. :03:

Task Force 08-30-09 11:05 AM

yea... But overhere stuff from the EU/US is quite hard to find. the stores stock the cheap stuff... and jack up the prices... so that clock that costs 10.99, actualy cost less than half of its origional price to make...
I wounder what would ever happen if the US and China went to war, or china stopped (which would never happen anyway) selling to the US... lol...

Buddahaid 08-30-09 11:40 AM

It's because we built our high standard of living on cheaper foreign labor. Want to spend $75,000.00 for a low end car? We do make good agricultural products, but on the backs of cheap foreign laborers, and I for one, don't want to make $5-10.00 an hour doing it. Catch-22, eh?
