A couple of SH3+GWX3 gameplay questions
Ello,
I have a couple of questions about SH3 and GWX3 that have occurred to me as I have played my previous games. If anyone can assist with any number of them, that would be excellent. 1) The deck gun on the VIIB seems to be acting strangely. When I zoom in to the first of two zoom levels, sometimes I can see the gun to left of the viewfinder and use its bounce to judge when to fire. Sometimes however it either doesn't appear at all, or drifts out of view as I track a target. Oddly, when I move the scope back to the previous position, it doesn't re-appear. Can anyone explain this to me please? I don't think I understand what's going on and why. 2) I seem to have pixellated smoke damage. It doesn't look very smooth at all, nor very thick like I see in some screenshots. I have enabled the explosions mod that came with GWX through JSGME, and the explosions look really smooth, but the smoke remains unchanged. I have tried with and without software AA (ctrl+page up/down) and I have tried three driver sets with no results. 7950GT is my card. Any suggestions as to how to fix this? 3) - solved this one. Thanks :) 4) There doesn't seem to be much use in upgrading to the VIIC from the VIIB from the information the game gives. Am I to understand that the VIIC has a thicker hull and will withstand more damage from depth charges in addition to its deeper crush depth? If not, I might just stick with the B. 5) Is there a convoy attack tutorial? I have worked out manual targetting, plotting and intercepting (with lots of help from tutorials), hitting multiple targets in a single column from 90 degrees AOB. I would like to learn any additional details or tactics for convoy attacks in various situations, as I believe I only have the very basics for single merchant attacks. There were more that I had too, but I forgot them. I did manage a 68k tonne patrol at 100% in GWX3 for my first patrol this campaign though. Not amazing compared to some I have seen sinking 150k+, but it is due to the help I have received here, so thank you again for that. It made a huge difference. :sunny: And happy friday! - todays useless information is; I now plan to spend the whole day doing the housework while playing SH3 in the background. |

There is a difference, the 'C' model has far more up-grade options for use later in the war, different turms give you better AA gun setups should you get caught on the surface:03: If you intend to stick with a singal U-boot till the bitter end(should you be lucky:03:) then the 'C' model is the best option:salute: |
Excellent, thank you. I'll grab the C after all. Not sure what to do about my 7950. I'll just deal with square smoke. And thanks for the convoy links. There's quite a few of them. This seems to suggest there is no definitive guide as there is for manual targeting.
Cheers, Mopy |
You DO have a guide for convoy attacks at the end of the GWX manual as well as manual targetting :
1 ) Appendix B : U-boat Warfare in GWX - Convoy Attack Guide 2 ) Appendix C & D : Manual Targeting I know a couple more made by Subsim members but I can't put my hands on'em right now. :salute: |
Ah, Appendix B. I did flip through but hadn't seen that. I must have missed it. Not to worry about the others. I've got a lot to try now after exploring the links you handed me in the previous post for convoys :sunny: No problem with manual targeting, all is smooth on that front.
Thanks again. |
