HiRes Fix... Fixed
 

Hello all,

Few days ago I reinstalled SH3 plus the GWX3. It is long time since I played and I almost forgot the fun I had.

So I decided to try once more the High Resolution Fix.
Every time I had tryied to install it I was getting a crash right after the intro videos no matter what resolution I tried, except the native 16:10 (1440x900).

That resolution though is making everything streched so I only accept 4:3.
The ideal resolution for my laptop screen would be 1200x900, but as I wrote it was causing the game to crash.

But after a lot of searching and experiments I found the solution :-)

The problem was that the Res Fix needed a native resolution of 1200x900 to run correctly. My graphics card is NVIDIA 8600M GS (in a laptop) and the drivers are NOT supporting that resolution.

The problem can be fixed by Powerstrip.
All you need to do is download the program, install, restart your PC.
After you right click the icon in tray choose Display Profiles and click Configure.

Choose Advanced Timing Options.
In here choose Custom Resolutions

In the settings window that appear, on the right pannel enter your desired resolution. In my case 1200x900. Sellect 4:3 and click OK.

Now you may need to restart your computer.

Once you reboot, check again in powerstrip if on the main window your custom resolution appears. If so, make sure that the option "Standard discrete timing" is selected (leaves timing to be handled by Windows).

So change your resolution, apply the HiRes Fix, cross your fingers and try to run the game.

Hopefully your crashes will stop and you will be able to run SH3 in all its glory.
