What a shame...
December 2nd, 1943.
South of Wales. I was enjoying my trip to the western shores of Great Britain. The weather was perfect. No wind, no waves whatsoever. You could spot a sloop from 12km away. And there it is! But its a bit bigger than a sloop. Its a J&K Class Destroyer! Its far away, the weather is perfect, why not shelling her? :rotfl: And so i did. I managed to land a fair amount of 20hits on her before she rammed me. But the point is: She rammed me starboard side with a big angle. In RL that would only mean a scratch on the paintjob and a well shaken crew inside. But instead the boat was destroyed... Aint that a bit too much? Its a bit unfair if the enemy can sink you so easily while i do minimum damage when i ram a battleship, on 17knots, in an IXC, on the point that a torpedo struck...:damn: |
In RL a U-boat never rammed a BB (to the best of my knowledge and belief)....but DD's often rammed U-boats, often to the fatal demise of said U-boat...DD's often put themselves out of action as a result of the damage sustained, but not many sunk as a direct result of the ramming.

I think you underestimate the force of such impact. The uboot hull (both outer and pressure hull) were rather thin and i belive could easily be ruptured.
|
not only that but the under water surfaces of the u-boat like the dive planes could easily be damaged by such a jolt... rendering your sub incapable of diving operations.
you would have had to surrender the boat anyhow - or be blown out of the water under such conditions. |

LOL , no wonder that this radical allied sea gulls keep raiding our harbors.

PS Any other pics showing subs ramming ships? I liked these ones. :D |
Must have been absolute HELL steering the Growler home! :o
Somewhere I've seen a whole photo sequence of a U-boat getting rammed, rolled over... and I believe pretty much split in half. I just wish I could remember where I saw those. |
