Trouble shooting question

You know that big bundled wire that comes out of the power supply that you plug into the main board. The ad says 20+4 for this plug, right?

The last four is liked hinged so you can put t in or not put it in. The plug on the Asus P5B (lost the book that came with it) is 24 female and when I looked at it for trouble shooting the last little four thingy is not plugged in to it leaving those four bare.

I think it was that way to begin with, but I pulled so many wires trying to get it to boot, perhaps I accidently unplugged it. Won't post after tring to put in a E-7700 dual core (I think it's the three pin fan I had and replace the stock fan with it). Already rma'ed the cpu now the 3.6 won't post.

Antec 650 P/S
Antec 900 case
Asus P5B MB
Intel 3.6 ghz
Ati 2600XT pcie video
Seagate 320gb hdd

I know the plug, the main one to the motherboard, if you plug the "20" in and you still have pins showing then yes you should have the other "4" plugged in, this should be shown in the motherboard manual.:hmmm:

If it takes 24, plug in 24, and don't forget the other plug near the CPU (4 or 8 pin). ;)

Thank you, I'll put it all back together again with all 24 plugged in and see.

I took the P/S out to put in another old 3ghz computer, but it won't post or boot either. Fans run, lights come on, but that is all.

Just like in the Navy I have to keep waking up the supplyman to exchange a part to see what the problem is.
