Help deciding DiD
Ok guys, need your "vote" on this, if I may be so bold. (Pun not intended)
I had my first IX-cruise last night. Successfull too. 3 Black Swans, 1 Destroyer, 2 Corvettes, 2 Small Freighters, 2 large cargos (I think....) Anyway. Had about 50% hull dmg. Went deep, and precided to bathroom for personal hygiene before bed, after I had evaded the escorts. 1xTC. When I came back things went bad. Tried to gain some "altitude", but to no avail. "Hull destroyed by pressure". Thing is, I did not know of that danger when I popped out for a quick teeth-brush. Please advise; DiD or savegame re-try? |
Were you damaged previosly?
Did you hit the bottom? What were the specifics of 'things going bad':shifty: |
Dead. :dead:
You should have been aware of the damage to your boat. Was the crew managemant screen showing flooding? At slow speeds, you slowly sink. As the flooding gets worse, eventually flank speed won't even keep you from going down. I had a similar experience. I was damaged by aircraft and had some flooding. Some time had passed and I was on the surface. I felt it was safe to transfer some externals to the inside. I stopped on the surface, started the transfer and went to 64xTC. My boat slipped under pretty quick but was able to catch it and made it back up. I'm lucky i didn't go on a potty break.:88) Bernard must have been the watch officer. When you meet him in hell(U-boat commanders don't go to heaven), whack him up side the head. :D :) |
Sorry to hear about your misfortune...
I vote for DiD. First, because with 50% HI you couldn't go deeper than 120-140m. You didn't specify the year, but there is a great probability that you would have been detected and sank anyway. Especially in '43 or later. Second, there's a pause key. :DL |

I did not hit the bottom. Year is autum 1941. No wabos, thats fore sure. But bolts were popping out and my men were dying! It felt very "Das-Boot-y". In hindsight I now know that I had gone too deep. I was at 145 meters. The deepth was just randomly choosen. Bad move.... |
You are D.I.D.
|
Dead.
It was the first patrol, so you didn't lose much. |

Hmm  Thanks guys! |
DID stands for "dead is dead". ;)

My opinion to your question, start another career. I loss better careers before. |
Definately play DiD... for me it makes game play far more serious and intense, knowing that if I lose my uboat... its back to the training yard with a new Kaleun.
Sounds like you were flooding/flooded and were sinking. I agree with BasilY - avoid hitting destroyers, aim for those nice big juicy tankers. Or armed trawlers to show them who's boss  Though Bernard may also be lurking within your crew! |

hmm everyone says DEAD but I have to ask: if you had been there, what would have happened? would you have noticed things going bad and immediately taken the right decisions to save the boat?
ah anyway, you just learned to crank up the volume and keep an eye/ear out. next time, you'll come running back in with your mouth full of toothpaste or your trousers half-down and your bottom unwiped (yes, been there), because your speakers treated you to the sound of bursting bolts and shattering class you're dead! |
Dead. And start a new patrol, hide (in SH3 Commander) your hull integrity! :yep:
|
And remember to pause next time! Everything can go to sh*t way too easy and quickly if you don't.
