Deck gun and other
In reality using only the deck gun what size ship could be sunk, and did the majority of sub commanders use only the gun at times for sinking them. As i don't know if a ship is over 1000 tons I force myself to have to use a torpedo then if necessary finish it off with the deck gun. As am trying to play reasonably realistic. Advice please.
Next question When the war first breaks out which is the best patrol grid or section to have at least a chance of picking up some targets. As i roam about at times all over the place. Again Thanks in advance. |
Let's try this another way :)
What is the biggest ship you would attempt to take out with the deck gun only. |
with deck gun only - probably large cargo. When it comes to big ships I prefer torpedoes first and deck gun for finishing wounded ship (best kill finished with deck gun was Auxiliary Cruiser)

IF you are askin in RL ? well the answer is any.Howeever that is if there is no crew to stop the floodings.IN time (if you make holes in enoughcompartments) the ship will sink(though this may take days :D). IN the game i use torps (especialy 41 and after) and if the ship is small enoguh and doesnt deserve a second fish i use the Deck gun to finish it.
I would advise you to try sink ships after 41 with deck gun only (unless very small).I would recomend you either get in gun duels with armed merchants also and always make sure before using the deck gun that your target is unarmed or their guns cant targe tyou.Ive done all this mystakes and they cost crewmembers and careers:damn: |
Just be careful when merchants start sailing around armed as well. They have an uncanny knack of hitting you a few times and causing problems. :damn:
Very unsporting, I would say! :nope: :) |

Background: I have only 1 torp left, and she's 3000-4000 away on a odd angle. |
I just use a rough rule of thumb, if it's around 2000t or less I use the DG, circumstances permitting.

Again
