1130HOURS

UNEXPLAINED EXPLOSION ABOARD :: 1 CASUALTY 2 WOUNDED :: MAJOR FLOODING CONTAINED :: MODERATE HULL DAMAGE :: SONAR DECK GUN PERISCOPE AND FLAK DESTROYED :: SUSPECTED SABOTAGE :: BEGINNING RETURN PASSAGE TO BREST FOR REPAIRS :: END

So am I right to suspect sabotage? I was cruising at 40m with no surface contacts and had over 100m below my kiel. All of a sudden we start taking heavy damage which instantly destroys the flak guns, periscope, sonar and deck gun and the forward compartments start to flood heavily. While my damage control group manage to put a stop to the flooding, I hit the seafloor at 140m and blow the tanks to get on the surface.

All repairs are made, and I have 1 dead radioman as well as 2 injured; one from the damage control team.

What else could this be? There was nothing around for miles, and I doubt it was a mine, especially where I was - in the middle of nowhere.

Without getting my map out, where exactly is AM97?,it is somewhere west of Britain?.The only thing that would be going through my mind would be "mine" , but as you said, you were in open water? strange.Could be sabotage, not sure if the game models equipment detonating in game etc :06:

Someone will know about this i'm sure.

AM97 is the entrance to St. George's Channel and it is mined.

That explains it then, poor bugger ran bow first into a mine :o

Wish the seagull alarm would have went off for me!

The thought that it was a mine went through my head as well, but I didn't think that they were in water that was this deep (140m) and this far out from land or anything of interest. Plus there was no explosion or anything, just all of a sudden...damage.

I also did an external camera sweep and saw nothing else anywhere close, above or below water.

Randomly placed mine?

No, it's a minefield, stretching from coast to coast. Not a very healthy place to be. :dead:

Yeah, learning things the hard way it seems. Didn't think there was a minefield there at all, given my location.

How far are they spaced apart? I did an external search and went a decent way out both above and below the waterline and couldn't find another one. That is what had me consider sabotage (I have the sabotage mod on).

Jimbuna 06-20-09 04:40 AM

The density of the minefields is measured in number mines per KM radius, therefore the higher the density the more mines/closer spacings between them.
