Where to start...

Got interested in submarine tactics watching "Victory at Sea" with my Grandpa. Saw "Das Boot" in the theater when it came out. Devoured every scrap of writing I could find relating to submarines. Probably built the U-47 model kit 5-6 times...

Then the fateful day at a family gathering at my Aunt's house. My Uncle had just installed a copy of "Gato" on his new pc. Been hooked ever since.

Did a few tours of Silent Service and AoD. I adored AoD. Something about approaching a convoy with "Ride of the Valkyries" playing that resonated with me. Bought the expansion pack and drove a XXI all over. Wore out two VHS copies of "The Hunt for Red October" and one copy of "Das Boot". Bought all of Tom Clancy's submarine novels, and the one "tech" guide, though I forget the name. Played Jane's 688 but it never hooked me, for some reason.

Then marriage and a kid and a divorce brought it all to a halt. Kept the kiddo, cut the rest loose:arrgh!:

Started trying to find a decent sub sim a couple of months ago. I would venture a guess that I have found it.:88)

I haven't stayed up until 4 -5 a.m. in years with a game. "Just a few more minutes, maybe we'll make contact with something. Anything"

Just installed GWX. "Forenume 15, eitnume teen". (Sorry, don't know how to spell it.) My jaw dropped. The LI's voice...:yeah: adjusting the planes ON MY BOAT!:cool:

I stayed up again 'til the wee hours last night just exploring GWX.

GWX dev team... Bravo, standing ovation. Thank you. This is the subsim of my dreams and I haven't even scratched the surface.

Tonight I'm going to take out my new type II for a shakedown. Going to run time/speed trials, time to depth trials and speed checks in varying sea conditions. Woohoo!:sunny:

P.S. and I thought I knew a bit about U-boots. All I can say is :salute:

I can personally vouch for the ride of the valkyries bit,I do that sometimes myself,depends if I feel particularly brave and aggressive :arrgh!:

It always amazes me how a four year old game continues to attract new players. A testament to SH3's greatness!

Nothing surprising about it, if the game's good then ppl keep playing it. Lots of examples of this (IL2, Battlefield series, Close Combat series and the list goes on :03:).

Thanks for the hearty welcome, folks! Seems like a great bunch here. I'm sure I'm going to have some questions once I dig into this game deeper.

@Dowly - I have two ferrets, a DEW and a blonde.

You would probably know how they get into everything at EXACTLY the wrong moment.

Ferrets running across the keyboard in a game like this (or any game, really) can be...disastrous.
