No Auto+Manual TDC switch like in SH3?

Greetings,

Overall I am enjoying SH4, though I do feel annoyed everytime I discover a feature from SH3 that was removed from this sequel.

Back in SH3 you could still use the TDC manually even if you didn't force its use in the realism menu and allowed the option for auto TDC to remain open. You had the best of both worlds.

I cannot find this option in SH4. Auto TDC is no longer the ability to use the magical periscope lock to input all the data automatically if you so desire but still have full manual control over the TDC, no sir, auto TDC in SH4 means you are completely locked out of the manual TDC, you are forced to use the magical periscope lock, exclusively.

Does anyone know if this is yet another feature that was removed from SH4, or if I'm missing a switch somewhere? I like manual targeting, but not all the time, and auto targeting in SH4 blocks you from anything except the lock-periscope attack, which denies you the possibility of sonar-only attacks and other methods.

As a side note, the devs of Dangerous Waters had the same mentality of the SH3 team: enabling the option of auto "TDC" in DW only means that you can use it if you so desire, but still allows you to go fully manual.

You seemed to have answered yourself.

Auto or Manual - that seems to be it; I don't know if it has been modded, 'cuz I have a feeling it's hardcoded.

Have you trued to assign a key combo in the keyboard controls file and see if it somehow switches on/off the TDC?

I also think this must be hardcoded, due to the different way the TDC operates from the german one. The US TDC was created to be autonomous from optics input expect in the exact moment when a bearing is sent from TBT/Scope. Therefore I also don't see any interest in being able to switch it on/off manually, just curious what would you gain with that? :hmmm:

if you have S3d you can add one yourself to see what effect it would achieve. It's much easier to do it in 3d that doing it in the menu1024.ini file. Just find a suitable 3d object (or add one) in the interior DAT files and link it to a Focusable3DObj modifier in the SIM file. For the command, add "Toggle_TDC_autoupdate". Then see what it actually does for US subs :hmmm:. I'd do it myself but I've modified the menu.ini so much for german subs that us subs crash on me :har:.
