WW2 Weekend 2009
This years WW2 Weekend is completed. I have a few videos and pictures. There was one very special plane that was flown and one I would never have imagined seeing operate.....Super Marine Spitfire! What a sweet bird and she could fly....FAST! She is absolutely beautiful and has some of the most graceful lines. The British really created a one of a kind in the Spitfires. There is a video link below to see her operate. After she shuts down there is a huge round of applause as you will not see this at every show or see this bird at all!

I will post some more tonight. Sad news, perhaps you might remember the P-40 I posted from last years show, well Bob died and it was posted on the WW2 weekend site. I figured he died of some aliment. So, I was bumming that the plane would not be there this year. I got an opportunity to speak with the event director yesterday and we got to talking about the P-40 and Bob. He said Bob was at an airshow in NY over the water. He made a manaever over the water and went in. No one knows what happened. All we know is the end result is one dead pilot(one hell of a nice guy, I spoke with Bob last year for a good 45 minutes) and one completely destroyed P-40 aircraft....what a downer for me hearing that yesterday. However, the show went on minus one P-40 and pilot.....the A-6 Texans made a missing man formation flight in his honor. Watching that Supermarine Spitfire fly lifted my spirits and made my day after such sad news.
A nice websit on Bob and his P-40. One hell of a nice guy and I will certainly remember talking with Bob about his P-40. He is certainly one of those breeds that loved to play with his toy(P-40) with anyone who was interested. Bob certainly did with me at last years event. Short of flying the aircraft, Bob let me have at it and hands on one of my most favorite warbirds....the Curtis P-40. Rest in peace Bob! THOUGH HE AND HIS WARHAWK WILL NOT BE AT THE SHOW, WE KNOW HE WILL BE THERE IN SPIRIT. OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY GOES OUT TO HIS FAMILY. http://airshowtraveler.com/CC/BobChrisMartinsburg1.JPG http://airshowtraveler.com/CC/BobMartinsburg3.JPG |
