GWX3GOLD - where has my saved game gone?!

This is just plain wrong now.Ive just this minute tried to reload my saved game back up,which was saved with no problems LAST NIGHT,when guess what beheld my eyes?!...NOTHING!,just a blank screen.Where has my save gone?! now unless there is a resident poltergeist inside the game code throwing our saves around AND deleting them, what could have caused this?

This was my first shakedown patrol, and was on my way back to Kiel.
I also keep the 'player' career intact.

Suffice to say,I am extremely disappointed :nope:

Thanks.

Oh god, I hope my gremlins did not find you.

Paul Riley 05-29-09 05:41 AM

Sgt.

Really, its knocked my duck off :nope:

I have no idea what could have caused this, its extremely strange behaviour, none of my other games have done anything like this, unless of course 'I' manually remove a save file myself.Strange thing is,the career is still active through Commander, but the save file has gone.

I have no other option, but to start again, only this time I will not be making the return journey (I actually like (used to) the return journey, even though its pointless),I will abandon mid sea at the end of the patrol.

A great start to GWX3G

That was sort of like the last major issue I had. Start a game everything is normal. Go to carrer pick my lattest one, no problem. Hit start and the load screen comes up as normal. Game came on as being paused, with no view of anything, but I could still give orders.

May I ask what the last mods you had employed. Becaause that is the only thing I can think of that could cause our problems, as different as they be, it may be caused by the same thing.

The last major one I had was the mantos optics one, then I used a sound mod, then the resolution fix. I run a 1920x1080, so I switched to it, that is when I began noticeing things. Before those everything was fine though.

By mentioning the above mods I am no way saying it was them that caused my problems, I am just trying to figure out where I went wrong.

"REJOICE!" "praise king Poseidon!"

I looked through the documentation at the section on bugs and oddities, and guess what, adding an 'x' to the end of the career folder resurrected my UBoat!

Now it says I can then remove that 'x' reverting the career name back to its original name.Lets go and do that shall we?

Can someone explain to me what caused this, and what the added 'x' does?

Thankyou! :D

- Enh. Dam. Effects
- Lite Harbour Traffic
- Alt. Loadscreen - Full circle

Keep me posted here :ping:

Sorry, I just read that in another post. I am currently in my 12th hour of downloading gwx with another 4 to go. So I hope to start getting back to normal this after noon.

EDIT: OHHHH, you are lucky. I wish I would have read that before eraseing my old career, maybe icould have saved U-122. Either way, Good going.

Another glitch I just remembered was after ordering a crash dive, the bell would not stop ringing. it rang for hours, days, before I returned to base because of it.

Paul Riley 05-29-09 06:37 AM

Just remember to put an x at the end of your career folder,if ever you experience this.I tried removing the x but again the save would disappear,so...seems we are stuck with that x.Having the save back though is whats important.I will try and remove the x when I return to port, before starting my 2nd patrol.

Oh,and for that bell you mentioned,do any of your mechanics have a spare hammer on board? :arrgh!:

Paul Riley 05-29-09 06:42 AM

I think this ought to be stickied and made public. It could save a lot of sudden UBoat disappearances (unless you are near Bermuda),for those that have not read the GWX3G documentation.

Thanks.

Seems to me like the GWX manual was pretty clear on that. You most likely had only one Career-profile, and deleted the career profile that was created automatically based on your player_name (not the same as the career Kaleun-name) at an earlier time.

Trust the solution. If it fails you have nothing to loose anyway.

Paul Riley 05-29-09 07:25 AM

I havent deleted any profiles Pisces.I have kept the default 'player' profile intact as I said. One thing I will say is,I only ever make one save file, and overwrite the old one, could this cause it?I should hope not as I dont want GBs of save data strung out all over my HD

Thanks.

I'm not trying to be offensive or rude but this is why people are strongly encouraged to read the GWX manual. This one & most, if not all, the known SH3 bugs and workarounds are covered. Yes it is a 600+ page document & I know that most of us would rather be playing than reading (I'm guilty of that too:oops:) but it's really worth the time spent going through it. It's very rare that you see documentation of this quality for a pc game; especially for a freeware add-on.

Gad.. you really having hard times Paul from the moment you switched to GWX don't you ? :) I'm sure things that is happening with you is just because of silly ignorance. But you'll learn how to deal with all these big little problems in time, with a taste of frustration but you will. :yep:
